  • I was having trouble with the javascript with one of my plugins, BuddyPress Docs. I had discussed the issue with the developer of the plugin and they thought it may be caused by how WP Engine caches, minimizes or stores javascript to increase performance.

To help us troubleshoot this issue I created a new WordPress installation, hosted on WP Engine, and using the WordPress default theme and only the BuddyPress and BP Docs plugins installed. The problem still occurred on this installation. The following link shows the Chrome developer’s tools errors when I try to edit a BP Docs document.

I contacted WP Engine Technical Support and explained the issue to them. They found the source of the problem was a WP Engine setting called heartbeat_autosave_only. This is a setting that only WP Engine Support can change. They modified this setting, and now BuddyPress Docs works fine.

So, if you have this problem, and are hosted on WP Engine, contact their technical support and have them modify the heartbeat_autosave_only setting and see if that fixes your problem.

Thanks for your response on how to approach solving my problem. Your suggestion about trying to modify the permalink structure gave me some ideas that led to an easy solution.

As it turns out, I noticed that the Wikiembed embeded content URL was added to the root URL (Home Page) of my site. My home page is a static page which displays at that same URL. So I tried disabling the Dictionary plugin on the home page. I then set the ignore URL arguments to “on”, and that fixed my problem.

    Thanks for your good advice.
