Great call! I opened the page in Firefox (I normally use Edge) and, indeed, the proper usernames can be seen on the user edit pages. I assume then that there is nothing really to be done except remember this.

6490 is the home page and the code is in the customizer. I assume that the missing bracket still affected the other pages because it stopped processing later CSS due to the missing bracket. The page is looking much better now and I think it will work with better-sized images and some text with consistent length. Moving on to the product pages now!

That’s amazing that you found that error! I am glad to say that it was nothing to do with me and appears to be an error in the theme (or possibly a plugin?). Either way, the lines have now appeared and the white space is drastically reduced. I assume that is also why nothing else worked when I tried it!

I may not know much about CSS, but I am always happy to experiment, so hopefully that will let me do so. Really appreciate your help.

I must be doing something wrong! I replaced the previous bit of CSS in Customizer – Additional CSS with this last bit, clicked on “Publish” and then refreshed the page in question. Nothing changed. Inspecting the style it looks different to what you posted. Here is a screenshot showing what I see: https://postimg.cc/w7NzhBtH. So, I am obviously doing something wrong, but I have no idea what.

Thanks for your help. Maybe I am getting outside my area of competence here, but I have deleted all cookies for the site in my browser, deleted the cache from the plugin and deactivated the plugin. It still shows a bottom margin of 1.75.

Thanks for the CSS. That is similar to what I have found before but there is more to it than what I found. I put it in the Customizer and saved it. However, I can’t see any difference in the live page after I refresh it. I have toggled between taking the CSS out and adding it back in and I don’t see any difference in the spacing.

I’m no expert when it comes to CSS, but I am assuming I don’t have to add the class to each individual block.

Just a thought, but can a block add space outside it, i.e. between it and neighbouring blocks? If so, maybe the styling needs to be applied to the insert page block rather than the column.

Thanks for the reply. However, while I know the images are different sizes, that doesn’t account for the excess white space around them and also around the text elements above and below them. The edge of the block in each case is tight around the image, but there is a large expanse of space between the edge of the block and the top and bottom of the column.

To make this clearer, I have removed the images and simply duplicated the excerpts. It is clear that there is a large amount of space still therein the first row of product descriptions that is not there in the second row. This is because there seems to be an excessive amount of spece between the edges of the insert page block and the top and bottom of the individual column the block is in.

That’s not how it reads, but never mind. So, there are no settings for the slider at all. I wouldn’t buy the Pro version without knowing how that worked, so I guess that has helped me make my decision.

    Thanks for your time.

    Hi there,

Thanks for your response. There is no confusion. The slider requires that all images have the same aspect ratio for it to work properly. That isn’t something I can work with because reality isn’t like that. I will therefore have to look for a different solution, probably involving a slider plug-in that allows greater flexibility.

    I appreciate your time though.

Many thanks for the information. I generally have more courage than common sense in these areas, so I will definitely give it a go! At the moment, though, I am a bit overwhelmed with work, so it won’t be yet.
The only bit I am concerned about is “to have the good part of the image shown”. This sounds equivalent to cropping the image in advance, and my third image shows that this is not always possible, as valuable and necessary information is lost.
    Thanks again.

Is this a dumb question or actually really difficult? I usually get some kind of answer when I post on here ??

Thanks for this information. I am a little confused now, as it would suggest that all pictures in the slider have to be exactly the same size for it to operate properly. This is clearly unworkable in the long term as there will always be pictures that are different aspect ratios and cannot be cropped for various reasons. That would then only leave the possibility of distorting the picture by changing the dimensions separately.

This seems to be borne out by what I have now done. The site now has one of the Spacious images linked to in the last post, one that I have sized to the same dimensions and one that I have simply changed the height to 500 pixels while retaining the original aspect ratio to avoid distorting the image. Image 1 in the slider is 2000×500 and displays differently to the other two, which are both 1400×500.

Image editing is an area that I am not particularly good at, so I am happy to hear that I am wrong and that there is a way to make images the same sizes without the issues described, but otherwise that is a deal breaker for me.

Thanks for the response. When I did that, the display on the PC differed, which is why I spent ages changing the sizes of the images so they weren’t displayed with different sizes on a PC monitor. The sizes you see are the ones that work on my PC display so that the images are the same size. Don’t ask me how or why that happens though!
