thanks for the great feedback and the explanation on what to check. I did all that and after everything was how its supposed to be I doublechecked the implementation and your documentation here: https://permalinkmanager.pro/docs/filters-hooks/how-to-filter-the-default-custom-permalinks/

With a closer look at the apply_filter function I noticed that the function for the custom implementation was required to have 5 parameters. Our implementation only had 4. I changed the function signature according to your documentation and now everything works as exptected.
