Hi! I recently found your post looking for the same thing.

I finally figured that it works if you change this line:
$image_description = trim($image->description);

to this:
$image_description = trim(__($image->description));

in jj-nextgen-jquery-slider/includes/jj_ngg_jquery_slider.php, on line 248.

I only tested it using qtranslate quicktags, like:
[:es]Texto en espa?ol[:en]Text in english.

Something very similar happened to me on a website using qtranslate plugin for multilanguage content and admin panel.

By chance, I found that if I changed the admin language to english, the images uploaded fine, and the thumbs were created successfully.
But if the admin language is not set to english (in my case, spanish), when I try to upload images I get the same error symbols, and thumbs are not created.

I don’t have any further clue as to where the problem is and how to fix it. For the time being, I’m changing the admin panel to english everytime I need to upload images.

I was just trying to do the same thing.

Changed line 197 from this:
$postout .= format_to_post($post_content);

to this:
$postout .= get_the_post_thumbnail($post->ID) . format_to_post($post_content);

Don’t know much php, but this worked for me.

I have just checked my MySQL table names. I have a table named ip2nation, and another table named ip2nationCountries.
That’s all. No prefixes.
The plugin also generates the tables wp_ad_buttons and wp_ad_buttons_stats.
