  • I’m a tellin’ ya! Boy, it is a great item to have if you really need that kind of care, but if you are any kind of fast on that keyboard, it is gruesomely painful to have to be slowed down by 80% or more of what you could be doing. It back-spaces so slow, that I, well, am having a hard time not passing out from panic over it. My slow-typer friend doesn’t notice it, however. Maybe, as our words are of course, so important, we really need the policing, as we all know, haste can really make waste, but I’ll take the Ferrari, please! I’m downloading the plug-ins, and thank you for that great info, shawnkltucker!! By the way, I use Firefox, I8, and Chrome. It’s WP in my opinion, a great safety feature, though, now, I want to be remembered for saying that.

Update here. Well, I went into my ftp and deleted that theme, and got my site all back in tack, except, now I am getting that message,”This theme is released under creative commons license, all links in the footer should remain intact,” when I try and click the RSS button. Hmmm. It happens when I select the default theme (not the blue one), or the Liberty Theme. And again, I promise you I have never messed with anyone’s footer.

Help!! I have the exact same problem as lucyq did! I did not edit the footer (so new to all of this I just learned what a footer was). Everything was fine (2.8.4) until this evening when I tried to preview a theme in my admin that I had just installed a few minutes previous, a theme by Ophelia Nicholson called “Wood”. There appeared that message, “This theme is released under creative commons license, all links in the footer should remain intact.” I just figured it was not compatible or something, and tried to preview another one that I had been thinking of, that had previously worked, “Liberty”, and was able to preview it for a moment, then, when I went, well, everywhere, front, back, etc., nothing worked. I can’t even work in my admin area now. What do I do! God has helped me every step of the way, so I am anxious to find out what the root of the problem is. Until then, I will be patient. Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you so much.

So, again, how do you upgrade from 2.6 to 2.8? Do you uninstall 2.6 within your FTP (FileZilla for me) and install 2.8 the same as I did 2.6? Or, can you install 2.8 OVER 2.6, without uninstalling? I suppose as I keep reading, all of the blanks will be filled in, but there are a lot of blanks! Another thing. I was careful to go to the 2.6 compatibility list, and one of the themes, Tarski, caused my whole site to disappear, except for a fatal error message. I uninstalled in the FTP client, and it was fine. Now, when I tried out several other themes, they were all fine, except of course, for the one I wanted, which will not display my NAME! It says Blog Name instead of what I want it to. I read that some artists have extra instructions, but this theme didn’t come with any other instructions, I have checked. Also, it only says it is a WordPress theme, and has no designer’s name on it. Is it possible that the theme is not working because it will only work with a certain version of WP?

Taruntanu…many, many thanks. I have to tell you all that I have had 2 of the most gruesome hours trying to figure out how I lost my, well, entire website, it appeared. I am new to this also, but have followed the advice explicity from Gideon and Yaro at BecomeaBlogger.com and had no problems, whatsoever, until I uploaded Tarski (DO NOT USE THIS THEME). Oddly, it is listed as one that is compatible with 2.6, which is what I am working with. Joyfully, I uploaded several themes I really liked, and everything worked until Tarski. I couldn’t get into the admin, and when I went to my website from the address bar, I got the fatal error message Fatal error: Class ‘Walker_Comment…Many thanks to taruntanu for suggesting to delete from the FTP (I used FileZilla) program. When I first deleted from the left side, the listing disappeared, but I still had the same problems. For pikatzu…see if you delted from the right side of the interface within FileZilla (if that is your FTP client). Everything is so fine now. Oh, one last thing. It did not revert to the default theme. There was a blank space. When I chose another theme, voila!, all was fine. Oooh…watch those land mines!
