Yes they had a previous comment approved, but I unchecked that setting; all comments must always be manually approved.

It hasn’t happened again, but if it does I will try disabling plugins.

Great! Thanks! I was already using a child theme, but I think centering the button is good enough for me for now.

Thanks, but I think I got it figured out. It looks like Jetpack’s comments module is https and my site is http. Seems strange to me that Jetpack wouldn’t make that more clear.

Guess I’ll need to enable https on my site to fix this problem.

Thanks. I was able to fix it by restoring a backup from a backup plugin that I had installed.
