Yep the fades are done using using Javascript, thanks to the Prototype and Scriptaculous Libraries. They make it easy.

I think with the music fest one could perhaps do without the gradient separating the light and dark green. I quickly did up two alternatives in case you’re interested.

The photo section doesn’t run on WordPress. It’s something I put together myself. I searched heaps for something simple that would let me keep a journal style photo gallery. It isn’t maintained via an admin interface or anything… all ftp ??

So I just have to make a middle page for the archives that displays all the months as links (no thumbs). Then they can select a month and view it’s thmubnails like this -> https://www.intransient.com/photojournal/
