It worked! Before trying the floating type, I tried specifying a width to the icons, which earlier was blank. I presumed that a blank icon width shall have a default value when displayed on the page. Also, it is unusual because I remember specifying the width parameter while inspecting the code in the chrome-inspector; it didn’t work then.
It works now. I have tried floating type and that works as well.
