Thanks Tara. I have no control over PHP, MySQL and mod_rewrite. I’ll make sure my sites have the www.remarpro.com link.
I poked around some more and discovered that the cloudflare plugin was preventing my two sites from starting.
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING or ‘(‘ in /home2/kortuico/public_html/wp-content/plugins/cloudflare/cloudflare.php on line 36.
I removed the plugin and re-installed it but the error is still there.
I did a little more research and it looks like this version of cloudflare requires PHP 5.3 or later. I contacted my hosting service and they upgraded my PHP to 5.6. They said that the highest MySQL version available for my share is 5.5. Am I likely to run into problems with that version?
Thanks to all of you for the lightening fast response!!!
Thank you! I’ll try them again unless anyone can think of other possiblities. I’m I correct in thinking that these “warnings” wouldn’t usually prevent my site from opening?

In reply to: SMTP Mail from WordPress: Chronic FailureSince they are now allowing me to add to this post, I would like to add the following information:
When I test my XpertMailer settings I get a wait symbol. I see waiting for tortui.net at the bottom left of my browser and under XpertMailer Options it says loading…
Here’s a log message:

In reply to: SMTP Mail from WordPress: Chronic FailureGmail requires secure SMTP connection (SSL) to send mail. Is there any such option available to enable secure connection (SSL) in plugin configuration?
Yes both XpertMailer, Configure SMTP, and WP-Mail-SMTP plugins allow you to select SSL/TLS with your choice of a port. In my situation, there must be some other underlying problem. I think I will try re-installing from scratch!

Very interesting! I’m reading careful but I’m not hopeful because, you see, I’m my own hosting service. Hopefully I can learn something nonetheless.
Thank you!

In reply to: Local Access vs Remote Access: Can’t do bothAlas, my Belkin Pre-N router doesn’t have the loopback feature. At least my first solution works perfectly fine. The real pain is having to portforward to begin with since I can’t provide services on any other ports.

In reply to: Local Access vs Remote Access: Can’t do bothHi Otto42,
I’m sorry. I completely missed your post. Thank you for the excellent suggestion. I will certainly check the settings on my router when I return home this evening. Your’s would be a very elegant solution. I have a Belkin router, not a Linksys, but one can always hope. ??

In reply to: Local Access vs Remote Access: Can’t do bothI got it almost right. I configured httpd.conf to listen on hostname:8085.
Of course I still needed to portforward 8085 so that it goes to the correct local IP. The only way around this is to configure the server as a DMZ which substantially compromises the security of the system.
I find that having to portforward really restricts your freedom to do many things!

In reply to: Local Access vs Remote Access: Can’t do bothBut, if I were to have httpd listen on port 8085 and remove the port forwarding, then I should be able to access locally as well as remotely. Shouldn’t I?

In reply to: Local Access vs Remote Access: Can’t do bothThank you, but that seems rather amazing–that there’s no way to do both.
Well, I guess I’ll have to stop beating my head against the wall, as much as I enjoy it! ??

In reply to: upgrade to 2.6.2A file comparison or synchronization tool can help. Checkout GoodSync and Beyond Compare. There are lots out there but I have found these two to be very good.
