Thousands? Sounds interesting. Seems like it would take a while to scroll down a page with thousands of categories, but maybe you are going to hack WordPress to only show the main categories, but then what? Sounds like trouble to me… maybe break up your data into smaller pieces and do multiple installs?

In reply to: post id number“I don’t see any other template tags that are applicable. Is there an easy way to pull it from the database?”
I would still like to know the answer to her original question…
$post_id doesn’t seem to work, and there’s no tag for the page slug either ??

In reply to: simpe adsense insert? You’ll want to go into “Presentation” “Theme Editor” then open “header.php” and find a nice looking place for your Adsense code and plop it in there… Just to be safe, cut and paste a backup of this page in case you do something naughty. I can’t tell you exactly where to put it because it depends on what theme you are using… But I think anyone here will tell you–it’s a matter of trial and error.

In reply to: NEW! Amazon Media Manager 1.5 (*Finally!*)Is there a blog I can see this thing in action? I’m not sure I get it… Amazon doesn’t exactly give a big commission either–seems like selling ebooks would be much better.

In reply to: Is WordPress the right tool for me?I can’t think of any site that I wouldn’t want to use WordPress for, as long as you have an understanding of HTML, just turn off the features that you don’t want, customize a theme and you are ready to go.

In reply to: Make wordpress more than a blog! The “Pages” option makes WordPress simply the best CMS on the internet, IMHO. WordPress already has link categories as far as I can tell–in fact I used them by accident last week.
A forum would bloat the code exponentially–mostly because forums are always targets for abuse and because users expect the features that are already provided by vbulletin (probably popular because of it’s relative grace under pressure). Add too many features to WordPress and you lose the simplicity, elegance, and ease of use that have made it so popular.

In reply to: SEO and WordPressGoogle conforms to us, not the other way around. You’ll never know how their algorithm is operating today unless you work at Google. So much energy is wasted trying to predict the impossible–it’s pathetic and greedy. There’s serious money to be made in reverse-engineering Google–likewise they are very secretive about how it works. IMHO: Forget Google. You have a blog! Worry more about blog indexing from the likes of feedster, blogpulse, and blogshares.
I wouldn’t worry too much about WordPress. They are definitely spidering WordPress blogs. I see my blog posts indexed daily–it’s fantastic! Trust me–Google wants to index WordPress correctly if they have any brains at all. WordPress is #1 When I surf the web–all I hear about is WordPress this and WordPress that. Lots of bot traffic in my logs already, Google included. Good times!Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Installation doesn’t work“then modify the category mod_rewrite rule so that archive directories use say archives.php instead of index.php.”
