OK thank you! That worked a treat.

@gappiah been wanting to circle back and thank you for explaining in detail the procedure for setting a posts page. I’m having other issues but at least I can cross this challenge off my list. Thank you so much!

OK so, I’ve rebuilt my home page for about the 30th time. This time, all of the information I wish to display is showing. But some of it is showing twice – and although the duplicate content is similar, it is not precisely the same.

I assume that my front page template is pulling in some of the content, and that the post page content block is pulling in the rest of it. But for the Love of God I do not know how to figure out where each bit of content is coming from and how to get rid of the extra foto and column blocks.

@gappiah … so I did that (thanks) but I’m still having a problem with the blog template. In my template list I have Blog Home, which is the template that I want to use. And I also have Blog (Alternative), which is the one that got selected when I followed your instructions: it is apparently, the default that links to the posts page, as it was the one automatically chosen by the software and I was not given another choice. There was only a single option for blog.

I cannot delete the Blog (Alternative) template and don’t know if I can rename it, either. I don’t see how I can link to the template that I want.

Blog (Alternative) shows at the top of the screen as the template for the blog page. It is not correctly formatted.

The Blog Home template shows at the top of the screen when editing for that template is chosen. It is correctly formatted. But it does not appear as the linked template for the blog page. I know I’m being repetitive but I want to make sure I’m saying all of this right.

Has a method been developed yet for removing unwanted templates from the templates list?

Say, is there an easy way to upload a picture from my desktop to this post?

Thanks @jordesign. I posted screen captures of 3 pages showing me clicking around on them. Yes, I do click on Edit Page when I want to do that and I see that my content might be in my template – which makes me afraid to change the content b/c then I will probably lose anything I’ve created. I haven’t created much but somehow spent about 100 hours doing it so I don’t want to lose anything.

I’d like to clean up my templates and have them just hold structure, rather than content in the content area. But I don’t understand how to do that. I also don’t exactly understand what you’re suggesting that I do.

I should say that I have recreated all of my pages a number of times, the home page more than 20 times, trying to follow Wes Theron’s and Sarah Snow’s how-to lessons. But I obviously haven’t followed the instructions well enough b/c I end up with the same misbehaviour.

Apparently I deleted the meet-lily page, so you can’t see it. So I used that clip to show a list of my pages and templates. The blog page list view shows neither a header nor a footer. And, I’m not sure I named that page correctly.

I’m sure it would help if I could separate my content from my templates (which are structure). I just don’t know how to do that. If it would help, I could trash the rest of the site and start over again. I would just need to save the front page content blocks I created. Maybe I could contribute them to the block repository and save them that way (I would need to see a tutorial on how to do that)? Is there another way to save them?

Screen captures are at https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1TaQguDGNxMafVPwm9la9mPnrrHGLF0pi?usp=sharing . It’s the same location where I put the screenshots, but I renamed the folder.

OK there’s something definitely wrong going on with this page. When I visit the url lily4boe.com, an incorrect version of the home page shows – and the sidebar shows it’s assigned to ‘default page’.

But as soon as I click on the list view edit icon, the page fixes itself. It displays correctly with the latest changes I’ve made to it, and the right sidebar shows that it’s assigned to ‘front page’.

A similar problem is happening with my meet-lily page and blog home page: I can see the correct pages when in edit mode, but I cannot see them when visiting the URL of the page directly.

I can’t figure out how to upload an image to this thread so here’s a link to a Google doc where I put the screenshots.

@jordesign I ended up deleting extraneous elements from the site but really, I’m not sure what exactly I deleted. It was pages, and a bunch of blocks that seemed to have no purpose in the list view of the page. In the end, I did get the home page to work and to register with the front page template.

The remaining problem I have with that page is that when I replaced columns in the content area with stackable columns and rows, the blocks in the rows do not stack on top of each other on a small screen.

And I have a question: if I introduce a post query loop on the home page to show blog posts, can I have another post query loop on a separate page which I want to designate as a blog page? In another thread I started you can see about the problems I’m having with creating a ‘blog home page’.

One more question: can you recommend free software for creating a screencast video.

Oh gosh @jordesign, what a great list of suggestions. Thank you so much!

After learning that I cannot easily access the FSE WP 2023 theme’s css, I’m thinking that this must be because the theme’s creators would rather the solutions come through FSE management rather than CSS.

Maybe an option I chose for the layout of my site is invoking the no-wrap clause, so the solution ought to be identifying what that option is and changing it to a different option.

Originally, I used columns for the content blocks I’m using, but I had an unfixable problem with margins or padding making those blocks so narrow, words were split into several lines and were not really legible looking like that. When I changed to horizontal rows of blocks, the narrowness disappeared and the content blocks (3 to a row) became full width. But now, when viewed on a handheld screen, the blocks stay in a row and don’t stack on top of each other. This makes it necessary for viewers to scroll horizontally to see all of the content blocks in a single row. Inconvenient and not what I want.

Maybe the solution is changing back to the column model, but I’m not sure that will work and I have already recreated this page maybe 20 times, just randomly trying things out to try and make my content show up at all. I don’t want to keep applying that scattershot approach, and would really like to know why the blocks are not wrapping.

Kartik, thank you! Is there maybe a no-code solution?

Where do I find the theme editor file?

If I customize the css, will that change be wiped out in a future theme update?

Oh and meanwhile, when I add a generic page from the pages editor, it does get assigned to the pages template. And I can add content to the page. But the content doesn’t show up when I navigate to the page. Example: https://lily4boe.com/meet-lily

The new page also does not show up in the menu bar.

    (@kimijye)

Thanks, Alan. I’ll give that a try.

I forgot to address the ‘can’t get rid of’ issue. I can’t get rid of the message to add title that sits on top of my content block. Tried everything but it persists.

I would so love to see a branch get developed. I’m not a coder but I will help in any way possible.

There is no developer any more! The original developer sold this plug-in. When the new developer learned that the plug-in’s customer base wasn’t willing to be used as marketing bait for something else he was selling and promoting, new guy just walked away from the plug-in altogether. It is no longer updated, maintained or troubleshot.
