It took me a lot of time but I finally figured out what to do about the background – mainly through trial and error I discovered for my phpBB forum that I could only use a repeating background of the pattern in a jpeg format, so I tried that with the Mandigo theme (using a jpeg instead of png file – just Save As a different file type in MS Paint for example), select that in the Mandigo theme options and hey presto! No stretching!
