Log is on full, but when I tried to translate from French to English I didn’t get any log results. However I noticed something else unusual: there are two entries for ‘English’ in the dropdown, none of which work.

When I tried to translate into another language (Dutch), it worked well!
So my guess is that the double English entry brings trouble.

Thanks for the update! I just tried, but got no response it seems – the wheel quickly spins for a microsecond, then nothing.
Also the javascript console doesn’t return any issues.

It should ideally not be used as a standalone plugin, but in tandem with an established translation plugin such as Polylang.

I use it with Polylang Pro; when I need a translation I simply click to create an exact copy of my post (saved as, for example, ‘French’ even though it’s still the english original), and only then I use the Deepl Pro plugin to replace the existing text with Deepl’s translation.

This could also be done with the free version of Polylang, except for the copying part where all content is replicated.

In addition to my last post: Polylang Pro offers the option of copying post content to the new post. This works really well with the plugin, so I opted for that.

Update: I noticed that Polylang Pro offers the option of copying post content to the new post, so I went with that. I copy the content to a new post (targeting the language of choice), save it a sa draft and then apply the Deepl translation to replace the existing text. So far it all seems to work pretty well and Polylang does not have a steep learning curve.

Yes it’s a good thing, marketing is another skill and development is what should come first anyway. I previously used WPML for another project because the client had already bought it, but it would be great if DeepL Pro will work with a free plugin. I tried Polylang the other day and it seems to be easy to learn, and being the most popular it could help get your plugin to be universally accepted.

I didn’t know about qTranslate XT, but seems they are planning to join the official WP repository too, so that could be an option. I’ll give it a try, too (update: just tried installing qTranslate XT, but the remark ‘once translated content is added, there is no way to use the website without qTranslate-XT anymore’ makes me a bit wary to apply it to a live site, especially as long as it’s not yet on www.remarpro.com).

I tried installing Polylang, which seems to be the most popular translation plugin for WP. Can’t figure out the workflow in tandem with this plugin yet; when I click translate in an existing post, it opens an empty post, no option apparently to copy/paste the content into the new post.

I have seen that before with WPML, which has the option to copy the existing text into the translated post, so that would work well with your plugin.
But if you have suggestions I’d be interested, and it would make sense to list them in the documentation here, because when it all works this could be a top rated plugin and a better deal than any other DeepL solutions for WP out there.

Ah, I didn’t realise that the plugin works in tandem with an existing multilingual plugin, that’s great.
Is there any particular plugin that you recommend works well with this, or is the <lang> tag universal?

Thanks @awslaw! Your fixed version also worked for me, after I tried to run this plugin on WP 5.3 unsuccessfully.

One thing I still noticed is that the plugin does not display the Deepl usage quota on the main plugin settings page. This worked before (installed on earlier versions of WP).

Also, the <lang=”en”> tags don’t seem to work so I’m not sure yet how I am going to allow users to easily switch from one language to another. Does the Pro version of the plugin provide an easy method there (comparable to other translation plugins’ language flag switch, for example)?

OK, I just tried to install Edit Flow (which looks to be just what we need on our site) and I had the same issue with Mail Poet.

Any idea on when the updated version of the plugin will be available?
Until that time we won’t be able to use the agenda.
