In reply to: wordpress.com-like SEO for my self-hosted blogSEO on a self-hosting blog is not an overnight thing. You need to work on it really hard, but the benefit is that it will be yours and yours only when you finally start getting traffic. WordPress SEO is actually a great plugin and you can use most of its settings as they are configure by default. Just make sure that your site is being indexed by Google. You want to check your robots.txt file for that.
If you just need some ideas to get started, please paste your link and I’ll give you a few free tips ??

In reply to: [Plugin: WordPress SEO by Yoast] Titles & Meta > Post TypesAs a matter of fact, it’s a really bad idea to assign your posts to several categories because it adds up to the duplicate content that you have throughout your site. It may make sense for the user, but not for Google. In case you absolutely have to use a few categories, here’s what you can do as a workaround.
In order to fix the duplicate content issue, you need to go to SEO -> Titles and Metas -> Taxonomies and tick the “noindex, follow” option across Categories. It’ll allow you to remove your category pages from Google’s index, but still pass along Google juice through them.
Alternatively, just assign one post per single category ??

In reply to: SEO-problems switching themeIs this a common thing while switching themes?
No, it’s not, check if you kept the same urls to your articles. Did you change your permalink structure?
Does not having a working “search” on the page make a difference?
No, it does not.
The articles were before showed in the navmenu where you could navigate and see all articles in a dropdown menu. Now I have relevant articles showned by clicking a link that shows an excerpt of the articles in that category(hard to explain) so there is no actuall way to navigate to the article while staying on the homepage. Does this make a difference?
Yes, it can cause some issues because it sounds that doing so changed your urls (to those pages that were previously available from the main menu. So, you may want to redirect to the same urls.

In reply to: [Yoast SEO] rel="canonical" without '/' at the end?I’m sorry but I’m not sure what you want to achieve with it. Are you trying to remove this message:
“Notice: This page’s canonical link element points to another page, which might prevent this page from showing up in the rankings.”
by removing / at the end of your url?
If so, what makes you think that the message is a problem? It just tells you that there’s a canonical that points from page A to page B and page A may not rank well because it gives its ‘juice’ to page B. So, it’s how canonical is supposed to work.
Plus there’s no SEO advantage to having a trailing slash or not.
