I had a similar problem. here’s the solution I found to clear the error:

In General Settings/Page Cache/Page Cache method, if set to Disk:Enhanced change to Disk:Basic. If you’re using shared hosting for your website, chances are that enhanced caching is not available. Check with your hosting company to find out.

Problem solved.

I did a little research and per the WordPress codex:

“By default, editing the Ping Services for a WordPress Multisite network site is disabled.”

Since I have Multisite enabled, I installed the recommended plugin, Activate Update Services, and now I have the Update Services option.

Never a dull moment.

Just checked IE and Chrome and now it’s working. I’m pretty sure I had emptied my browser history and cookies on both those browsers but maybe it took some time to propagate the changes.

Well, that worked – sort of. After adding content-single.php and content-page.php as above to my child theme, all the text in the post disappeared. However, with just the new code for functions.php the navigation appears above the tags and shares but is also in the original location below as well. I can live with that.
