Thank both of you, moshu and petit, for your responses. The generalA and generalB idea is creative. my template is structed by tables. css won’t be able to get rid off some structures. That is why I didn’t try css way. Also I like to have the option that people can click a category to have all posts listed for print. By your discussion I am thinking to try themes. by switching to a different theme (looks alike though) to force wordpress to use either archive.php or category.php. is this possible? because all concerned is the category.php, then archive.php, and finally index.php, depending on availability. once one is called up the theme is defined. I might be wrong. I am new to this php thing. I know somehow about html and css only.

MattRead, thank you. I have found the problem. I used a counter provided by my server (java applet). once I removed it my site is loaded much faster.
