Angsuman, thanks for your kind reply. I found an easier (for me) way to backup the db, since I’m not at all familiar with shells or any of that. I was surfing around my hosting site; I went to CPanel, which had (surprise!) a big button labeled “Backups.” Ha! Then I chose the aptly-named “Download a MySQL Database Backup” option. Click. All done. Now that’s “db Backup for Dummies”! ?? Thanks again, though, for trying to assist me.

I’m posting this not only to say thanks, but also just in case it can help someone else who comes along reading this thread and can use this option. Best wishes. ??

Angsuman, hello! I am also using your Dashboard trim ver 2, and I really love it. Absolutely love it. I did not upgrade to 1.5.1 (and have no plans to at this time), but instead used a patch (thanks again Shelley) just for the security bug, which is fantastic. So I am not backing up anything right now. (Your instructions on the db backup are beyond me, anyway, and not critical right this minute for me because, as I said, I’m not upgrading from 1.5. When I do backup, I will just ask my hosting service people, who are not only friendly, but quick to respond! I’m lucky.) But THANKS very much for taking the time to read/reply. Very nice of you.

Your main page (header area) shows you have:

I’m certainly NOT an expert, but could it be you need to make the two widths the same here? (i.e., width 758px for both)

And make sure the stylesheet (#page) has the same width?

I just don’t have the confidence that this upgrade process won’t have me messing up things up beyond my ability to repair them (even with the option of posting at length in the appropriate place in the forum, as I try to explain my specific issues carefully and politely, hoping for understandable/effective assistance from volunteers, some of whom are EXCELLENT, others of whom, let’s just say, don’t in my view have the right temperament for volunteer work. But I digress.)

I have a lot of customized Pages and stuff. These were very hard to set up. Lots of posting here, lots of reading and searching and re-reading and typing and more typing. Anyway, I’m like you, I don’t want to take the chance of messing it all up right now.

It’s too late for me to beat myself up for not having kept a written diary of each change I have made since I first installed WP 1.5., or for not seeing the (apparently) numerous posts advising such, although Lord knows I have spent hours reading here and in the Codex. I am trying to move on and find solutions now. Again, I thank everyone here for their help.

Jinsan, I’m with you on this and thank you for asking/posting this. If you ever get any correct info (a way to upgrade just for the security fix(es) without deleting or disabling anything; actually I don’t really mind disabling Plugins, it’s the REST of the instructions that have me cringing and not understanding) will you PLEASE post here about it so that I (and I suspect others in our boat) can follow you? I would be thrilled and very grateful.
