Thanks James – I first tried adding that line as the first line in the .htaccess file and after I uploaded it, it crashed my site. So I took that line out and reuploaded it. Now the site is back up. I’ll tackle the plug-ins next.

While I’m doing that, if this is helpful, here’s what my error message says:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 41943040 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 19456 bytes) in /home/p14l37s2/public_html/wp-admin/includes/template.php on line 557

I did look at the template.php file in the folders indicated, but line 557 didn’t mention memory at all. It said

    $r .= “\n\t\t<td class=’left’><label class=’screen-reader-text’ for=’meta-{$entry[‘meta_id’]}-key’>” . __( ‘Key’ ) . “</label><input name=’meta[{$entry[‘meta_id’]}][key]’ id=’meta-{$entry[‘meta_id’]}-key’ type=’text’ size=’20’ value='{$entry[‘meta_key’]}’ />”;

Does this information make you suggest anything different than trying the plug-ins?

Thank you James for your detailed answer. Just want to make sure I do your recommended steps correctly.

For deactivating the plug-ins, would you turn them all off at once, check to see if the problem is solved and if it is, then start turning them back on one at a time? Or would you turn them off one at a time, check and then turn it back on before going to the next one?

I don’t seem to have a php.ini file, so if I were to add the line you suggest to the .htaccess file (which I do have), does it matter where I add that line? First line, last line, or is anywhere okay?

Thank you for clarifying these questions for me.

Thanks again for all your help thus far. Tonight, I tried to use the Notes plug-in to edit the spacing problems for my content within the widgit, but I’m having trouble figuring how where to access the tool. It says to use it in the Customizer, but where is that located?

The closest thing I can find is when I go to Appearance, Customize, then click on Widgits. But it tells me: “There are no widget areas currently rendered in the preview. Navigate in the preview to a template that makes use of a widget area in order to access its widgets here.” Except the page I’m looking at is I think totally made up of widgits. For sure the main content on the home page is because I input the content via the Widgit Content tool and then placed it into the correct space.

So either, can you tell me 1) where to find the Customizer that Notes uses or 2) how to remove the widgits from the main content area of my home page and have it be more of a basic page where I can enter the text into a non-widgit format?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Regarding Plugins, so far I’ve uninstalled Hello Dolly and disabled (but not deleted) the Rotating Images one. I’m not sure which others are currently being used or not, but will try to figure that out. Thx

Since this isn’t a website that I created, I’m running into issues right and left trying to figure out what the former person did. Seems like perhaps some scotch tape and bandaids are holding things together.

That’s what’s leading me to want to just start fresh and recreate in a new theme. But in the meantime, I’ll try using NOTE to fix some of the broken stuff and make it work while I rebuild. I just installed it and will attempt to work on it this weekend.

Thank you for all your help. I really appreciate you sharing your expertise!

So if I search for a Plugin called Note I should be able to solve this?

I was actually thinking about just starting over with a new theme/layout and getting away from Widgets. I’m not as experienced as you seem to be (so I really appreciate your expertise) and am thinking straight text editing without the widget hassle might be the way to go? Thoughts?

Thanks – I did back up the system before making changes. Am slowly making progress through my changes. Turns out a bunch of stuff on the front page is made up of Widgits so now I figured out how to access that area, although it’s not easy to format text within widgits.

I think so, but can’t say for sure since I didn’t build it and I think lots of modifications have happened over the years. The dashboard says: “WordPress 4.4.2 running Builder Child Theme – Coffee theme” so I think it’s a child of the Builder theme which is also loaded on the site.

Theme is Builder Child theme – Coffee; I believe this is the active one. There is also plain Builder.
