I have checked the options there several times but I don’t see any method/option to disable the standard box-design / frame around each post listed / the shadow around these boxes. I also miss options to set padding/spacing around the image

Am I looking for customization in excess of what this plugin can offer in it’s current version?

What caused the problem was the “Divi Switch” plugin for Divi. After I disabled it your app works for this site.

But I still don’t understand the point of the widget menu. If I disable the menu from the adverts_author_manage and add the widget.. the url in the widgets have no function.

Hi Greg, I’m not sure we really are understanding each other here.

I’m trying to get more control of the layout and the problem is that on a mobile phone having the menu always stick to the left of the ads list / create ads etc is not optimal. I prefer to have the menu in a sidebar so it ends up over or under. That seem not to work as if I put the menu in the sidebar and hide the menu in the main window [adverts_author_manage show_menu=”0″] the result is a menu that do nothing.

Still I don’t understand the point of the widget if it’s impossible to actually click it and have something happen. So I must have missed something even after reading the Authors documentation with this in mind several times.

So if [adverts_author_manage show_menu=”0″] does not work in the main content area when I have the widget menu showing, how are we supposed to use the the widget menu??

Hiding the menu via css did not change any thing of what I mention above.

Thank you, yes I think I have understood that.
But if the “Widget – Author Menu” is available and I use [adverts_author_manage show_menu=”0″] on the same page where I show the “Widget – Author Menu” I still have the same problem that the “Widget – Author Menu” links to one page with arguments like “?author-panel=create-ad” but the page do not change behaviour according to the link. And if it’s as you say that I need to create seperate pages.. What’s the point of the menu widget as I have no control of what page it link to?

Hi again.. I just discovered the “Widget – Author Menu” it could solve my problem, in theory. But it seem to give me the same problem.

I successfully display the menu in my sidebar and in the main area I have [adverts_author_manage show_menu=”0″]

The problem is that it will only display the dashboard:

Hi again Greg, now I think I got it. I did not realize that the listings in “Authors” are linked to “Users”, apologies for that. (If the documentation explained this we would have avoided this long thread ;)) But you have a bug in your plugin/addon that confused me and made me think they are two different types of users:

Users who sign up with [adverts_add] can login with the Authors addon and access the dashboard but they cannot update their profile by setting phone number, public name, slogan or description. Your plugin does not give any error when this kind of user try to store this info. Your plugin happily display “Your profile has been saved.” but nothing is actually stored.

Logically as these kind of users are not listed in “Authors” that might explain but.. but from the users perspective and my as well as site admin. It seem very strange that they can login but can’t create/update their profile as other users?

Do we agree that this is a bug, not a feature?

When can it be fixed and the addon updated?

1) That does not correspond with my experience of your plugin. I have installed it on a 100% clean, new and standard wordpress installation and your plugin create the user types in TWO DIFFERENT WAYS depending on that shortcode / addon is used.

If you are sure about what you wrote. Please let me know.. I’ll setup again from zero on a new install. Not an option I’m happy with. But either this will solve the strange things I see or I’ll give up soon…

[adverts_add] and [adverts_author_register] create different user types.. one of them is a “normal” wordpress user and the other is some other custom datatype/taxonomy .. not sure what to call it. In my opinion the documentation of your Authors addon is not very clear on this point.. and that there are two types of users is confusing and I can’t be the only one with this issue.

6) As admin of the site do I really have no method to change password or other details of “authors” created by the Authors addon? That would not really work as users would always mess something up and we need to help them out.

Also if I delete an “author” the ads belonging to the user is still there. Are there no feature for this?

7) I don’t want the “Profile Page” feature on my site. My site will have both private and professional users and the plugin display Profile page for all users that sign up via Authors Addon. So it will become a mess when also private users create profiles.

So to remove the feature I can disable “Allow changing privacy on registration”. And I can remove the “privacy” meny options with options in the shortcode [adverts_author_manage show_menu].

The problem is that if I do that user still have references to the Profile Page in the message that is displayed in “home” page:

“Your profile page is private… Update privacy settings…” And it links to: “View My Profile Page”.

If I remove the home page user have no info about number of active ads or when ads expire. And I get error message “Panel home does not exist.” after registration etc.

Do I have a better way to solve this or is my best option what I described here?

(Ideally the profile page should only be available for certain groups of users, same as “Featured ads” I think.)

I think I found another bug in the authors addon:
I created a new user via the Authors addon. In users profile there is a phone number set and it show when click “Edit Profile”. But when creating a new ad this number is not prefilled into the form. If it’s a feature it will be problematic for users that have many ads to put the phone number in every time they publis an ad, for sure they will forget it many times. The email address is displayed in the form, but possible to edit, that’s perfect.

I increased php memory limit, now it works. It was 256MB, now it’s more. 256 should be plenty for this plugin but perhaps not. What is recommended?
