Thanks for the quick response. I followed the direction to save this plugin under mu-plugins folder that I made under wp-content.
Now, I am not very clear about what I should be removing from the wp_sitemeta & wp_X_options. I browsed these two tables but did not see entries that has bp- leading; can you give me more specific examples of what I should be looking for to remove from the database? Really appreciate your help as I am new to wordpress!

Thanks for sharing the info. I managed to achieve what I wanted following the thread you shared. The only thing that is still not working is for the Members through BuddyPress plugin to show up for the old site…I suspect it has to do with the fact that I changed the old site’s url to mysite.com/wordpress/oldsite instead of mysite.com/wordpress/.
