    Thank you for getting back to me. That does seem to work. Since that gives a link without security string I tried uploading it from the product page with my Filename settings turned off, just to see. That didn’t work either, if that helps at all. I took a screen shot of how the same file uploaded into my media library: the one on the right I uploaded directly to the library(this is the one that works) and the one on the left was uploaded through the product page(doesn’t work). So I’ll go through my products and reload and update the links directly from the media library and hope I’m good to go.

    I have tried deleting the files and reloading. That hasn’t been successful for me either. “Redirect” has been the only setting that has worked for me, but I’d rather have more security as I’m selling the pdfs. I had it set up as forced downloads previously. I just can’t figure out what’s changed that the download links don’t seem to work anymore.

    Thanks for looking at it! I tried it on my site not logged in as admin and I came up with $7.50, as well. When I I click on calculated shipping it gives me an option of $22.05, which my buyer for some reason chose in this instance. I don’t understand how that number was figured, but I feel better knowing the base rate is correct.

    Figured it out. Thanks, @curtismagic . If it weren’t for your note, I’d have spent forever figuring this out. This was a new problem for me since recently updating my WooCommerce site, but the correction was in the need to update an old setting in my PayPal account.

    @curtismagic Would you mind saying where the default setting was in your papyal account? My instant downloads are loading in correctly in the cart on my site, but when the payment gets handed over to PayPal, an $8 shipping fee is being applied.

    Thanks, Zach. I thought I had always had it factored in at each product shipping weights and measurements that was then calculated in the shopping cart based on destination zip code. Perhaps I confused this—I sell on multiple sites but have recently building my own domain as a destination. I have it currently set up to a flat fee plus % with max and minimum. That should cover me for the time being. If I were to upgrade to something that calculate the shipping based on the order shipping weight and destination with USPS, is there a simple extension you’d recommend?

    Is the link generated at checkout supposed to be different than what is entered in the URL field when I’m editing the product? If so, have I missed something in my settings….?

    Dreamhost had me disable the .htaccess file. Everything seems to be working now, but I’m not sure if there will be any unforeseen circumstances. Any that you can think of?

    Hi Mike,

    I’ve sent a note to Dreamhost to look at the directory, but I can link to all the jpgs in the file. Example: https://www.jwrobel.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/asjearflap.jpg It is only the pdfs that seem to not be functioning. Dreamhost told me this this morning:

    “Thanks for contacting DreamHost. The woocommerce uploads directory is not
    meant to be accessible via a direct URL as they are protected files. This
    is done via an .htaccess file rule.

    jwrobel.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/woocommerce_uploads# cat .htaccess
    deny from all

    When someone purchases a download a special URL is generated and they can
    access the file via this special URL. You can disable this by disabling
    the .htaccess file in the woocommerce_uploads directory.”

    Where I get further confused is that the URL generated with the purchase of the download is the same as the link from my product edit view.

    When I visit the urls generated in the products (which are the same as what is being sent at purchase) I’m told that the page can’t be found and it is an error 404. I can log in to my server and see that the files are where they are supposed to be, but I can’t access them via the browser.
