@wflagon,
Sorry for the delay getting back to you.
It now seems to be exactly an hour out so that makes sense to me.

In reply to: [Edit Author Slug] 404 Posts and AuthorYou asked… Are you hard-coding author URLs, or using a non-standard function to create the author URLs?
I don’t believe so.
I figured out the fix as although the settings were…
/blog/%postname%/
The post names were just /post-name/
As soon as I chnged /blog/%postname%/ to /%postname%/ it all worked.
Hope this helps.

In reply to: [Edit Author Slug] 404 Posts and AuthorNo I wasn’t to worried about that, more about hiding the author name for security purposes.
I installed the pulgin and once I changed the author name all posts started to return 404’s.
/blog/%postname%/ seemed to be causing the issue the fix involved changing /blog/%postname%/ to /%postname%/

In reply to: [Edit Author Slug] 404 Posts and AuthorI have fixed it…
Permalinks were set as custom /blog/%postname%/
Changing to /%postname%/ makes it all work again.
Not ideal but it’s something I can work with.
Thanks for your time.

Just noticed this: /public_html/wp-content/cache/page_enhanced/
a quick search and yes could it be that I did have W3 Total Cache installed?
I uninsulated W3 when I started using Wordfence, which has a caching feature.
Could this be whats causing the issue, if so whats the best way to put this right?

I know that Yoast does this.

I have also altered it the .htaccess file to harden wordpress.

My host tells me that “neither cloudflare or varnish are installed on the web space”.
Let me know if you want any more info?
Thanks for getting back to me.
I have accessed the area you suggested I can see the folders.
When I go to clear cache I get this:
A total of 0 files were deleted and 0 directories were removed. We cleared a total of 0KB of data in the cache.
The folders do actually disappear but the pages remain unchanged.
I can see a clear.lock file I presume this is correct?
I don’t know anything about Varnish or CloudFlare no sign in Cpanel.
Have asked my hosting provider, will let you know the outcome.
Justin
OK have tracked it down to the .htaccess file.
Given the above how should I approach reinstalling the plugin?
My Host came back with the following:
I have looked into this issue for you and this could be done on the .htaccess file on the webspaace. As you are on a shared platform this will be superceeded by the global configuration of the server but you should have enough to increase this via htaccess file for what you need. I would add something like php_value memory_limit 64M to the htaccessI did this and am now getting the following:
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@—-.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
In fact the site remains broken even if I re-upload the backed up .htaccess file.
I even noted down the file permissions which were 444 (I guess because of the plugin).
I had to change theses to upload the revised .htaccess file.
Great that works, how should I approach reinstalling the plugin?
Do I need to change anything else, or can I just Add New.
I note that when I try to upload the old plugin files this doesn’t work (it goes back to the error) so assume that I need to do other things to get back on track.
