Also, is there any way to limit the number of thumbnails seen and age a paging arrow to see the rest of them, as in the Photospace theme?

And, funny enough, mine just started working again. I haven’t changed anything. I did install the mail-from plugin, which didn’t work, but that was a couple weeks ago. Now, suddenly, I’m getting notifications. I deactivated the plugin to see if it made a difference, and it hasn’t. I’m wondering if it had to do with my server? Or maybe it’s just a fluke and they will stop working again. Time will tell….

I am reading so many different theories on this but no help other than plugins and fiddling with e-mail addresses. Is there really no good fix to this? Eek!

I’ve figured it out. I needed another <?php else … in my comments form. Thanks.

Ok, after puzzling for hours I’ve figured it out. I had to add a <?php else … to my comment form and fiddle around with the placement of the <? php if … related to no comments, but now it’s working just like I want it. Thanks!

Aha! Nevermind, I figured it out.

In case anyone else has the same problem:

I put my anchor tag in front of the comments heading (<h5 id=”comments”>Comments</h5>) and also in front of the comment form (<h5 id=”comments”>Leave a Comment</h5>). If there are comments, then the page lists those comments and the link automatically starts you there, with the comment form below, because of the anchor (and because that anchor occurs first). If there are no comments, the page will only show the comment form, and since that also has an anchor tag, the link will take you there. Much easier than I was making it. Phew!

Thank you. It looks to me like that text IS written in my comments coding, though…. And I think that just results in having no comment form AND being unable to read any of the previous comments. There’s only a note saying they’re closed. What I want it to look like is this: When comments are automatically closed, you can still read any previous comments left, but there is now a notice indicating that no further comments can be made. Instead, all the previous posts are listed (as I want), but there is no indication that comments are now closed. Does that make sense?

Also, out of curiosity, do you know why the automatic closing just results in the lack of a comment form with previous comments displayed, yet if I manually disable comments it will say “comments closed” and not display previous comments? Is there a difference between the automatic closing and the manual disabling?

(BTW, I’ve decided not to use a popup window, so now I’m just dealing with the comments.php file.)

Thanks for the reply. I think I just realized I was confused and should have been asking a different question. If I disable comments manually, instead of a link to the popup it just says “comments closed,” but if I allow WP to automatically close comments, the link remains for the popup and the popup still shows previous comments. So that’s ok. I’m guessing there’s a difference between “disabling” and “closing,” so that was my misunderstanding.

But, a related question: When WP automatically closes for me, if users click on the popup link, the popup appears with a comments form and only tells users that comments are closed after they’ve tried to post the comment. Is there a way to put a notice right in the popup instead, so they don’t go to the trouble?

Also, on my single page, I am using the comments template (not the popup), and there I can see the previous comments, no form, but there is nothing stating that comments have been closed. I copied both files from the default, so I’m not sure why the inconsistency. Any ideas?

    Thanks again.
