O, I think I got it, I had in my config file

define( ‘SUBDOMAIN_INSTALL’, true );

I changed it to false and I think it will be working.

I guess this is what you meant by override it.

What are the step required for me to be able ton install the new site in the network in a sub/directory ?

I guess I found my answer here : You cannot choose Sub-directory Install (for a path-based network) if your existing WordPress installation has been set up for more than a month, due to issues with existing permalinks. (This problem will be fixed in a future version. See Switching network types for more information.)

It brings me to another question : what is the implications for me to use a sub.domain instead of a sub/directories. Is it a problem with SEO ? Will it be working with my plugins Multisite language switcher ? I am use to doing it with sub/directories and not with sub.domain. See for example my own site at https://www.juliecloutier.com where I created the main site on the root and used language switcher plugin to navigate to the french version of the site in the sub/directory https://www.juliecloutier.com/fr/

When I installed the network a message said that my install was not recent and that my wordpress network sites should use sub-domain and it could break the link to my images. I don’t know how to resolve that either and why it gave me that message.

It seem to be asking me for a sub-domain, but I wanted a sub folder. I am writing https://www.groupeespaces.ca/en but it is written just below .groupeespaces.ca as if wanting me to create en.groupeespaces.ca

It does not copy my css and template styling but I can do that manually or from the template function, I am using the Thesis 2.0 frame. I will have to research on how to import all styling.

Well when I go to my post or page, on the top right corner there is a box with a drop down menu Called Multisite Language switcher, when I try to select the other language version of the same post or page, it won’t save it. The url is https://www.juliecloutier.com You will see that the link to the french in the left sidebar always bring us back to the english home page.

I will have an url, give me around 15minutes. It is for now on maintenance mode, I will switch it off for an hour or so

Should I write the adress in the blank space on top instead of using the drop down menu ?
