I was starting to think that would be the solution. I was doing a little more testing yesterday, and anything that got upgraded by that auto-installer has the same problem (I have 2 old dev sites I forgot about). Interestingly, a new install by the autoloader works fine. Frustrating.

    Thanks for looking at it.

I think your pessimism was well placed. ??

I changed that tag in the twentyfourteen theme, and it still gives me the same symptoms.

The one thing that could be related to this is that I may have jumped a couple of wordpress versions. The site had been neglected for about a year and needed to be updated to the current version, which I did. I don’t remember what version it was on before. I used my host’s automated updater, and it all seemed to go smoothly, except for plug-ins, which WordPress no longer recognized despite the folders being there – still don’t really understand that, but the new installations work. I deleted the folders and reinstalled the ones I needed (just Akismet and Jetpack).

I went through the same process on the other, fully functional blog as well. The only difference was that I updated that through WordPress’ updater, and also had to manually update my DB password in the config file.

So there were weird things going on, but I thought I had it all cleaned up. This doesn’t seem like a DB issue, nor does it seem like a theme issue (as I get the same problem in multiple themes). I would entertain the notion of a core or plug-in issue, though I’ve deactivated, deleted and reinstalled the plug-in completely (and get this problem in all states), which makes me think it’s a core issue. But that’s where I’ve hit the wall. Not sure what to do at this point.

    Interesting. Thanks for that catch.

Unfortunately it’s been about 6 years since I’ve touched any code and aside from my memory going to pot I imagine there are a lot of changes I missed.

So my next question is: where do I find that tag? Is that in a theme, or part of the WordPress code, or part of Jetpack.

I don’t have a problem changing it once I find it, but I suppose that also begs the question – if I’m running the same version of all those things on a working blog, how did it get to be different here?

    Bump.

Any ideas?! This is pretty annoying.
