This has been resolved. I will tell everyone that in my case the mp3 file contained parentheses: ( and ) which failed for whatever reason. So I had to change those to %28 and %29 and now it works well again. Hurrah!

I can see some files within wp-content that might be of help but would be afraid to edit without anyone else recommending.
