I’m working on this problem as well. Unfortunately, the only way I’ve found to populate the images is by uploading an image into the post itself. Once it’s uploaded, there’s an option to use the image as the “Featured Image”, which then appears in corresponding area.
If I find a better way, I’ll try to post it here.
