Do you have access to your web server logs (or php logs if separate)? It would be helpful to see what the underlying cause of the error was. It certainly works fine on my test site.

For anyone else’s reference, when the images aren’t added to the gallery from the page-edit screen, the plugin doesn’t pick them up correctly. Once they’re added via the page it works correctly.
