In reply to: Sidebar disappears in ExplorerI moved the Facebook widget to the unused widgets area (because I didn’t want to lose the settings) and now the sidebar is completely empty in Firefox and Chrome on my Mac and Explorer on my PC.
All of the other widgets were working fine on Friday (except on Explorer).Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Sidebar disappears in ExplorerThanks. I just ran it through the validator at W3C and there were several problems.
I had used HTML to create some horizontal rules underneath the Headers in the widgets in the sidebar, because that’s what the design calls for. W3C said I should be using CSS to create those instead. But I couldn’t find which document has the CSS for the sidebar widgets?
The Facebook Like Box plugin/widget I’m using also had several validation errors that I don’t even understand. I had used the widget instead of directly pasting the code directly from Facebook because it looked like I would have to paste some of it into the HTML file, but I don’t seem to have access to that (remember that they won’t give me access to the FTP account, so I can’t download the HTML file).
Here are the errors regarding the like box. What do they mean and what can I do about it?

I found a plugin to put the sidebar on the Mission post, but haven’t found one to fix the navigation menu.
Does anyone know of a plugin that will add a post to the navbar?
The sidebar is gone too.
Darn, that should say “…MISSION is no longer in the navbar.”
Oh, no! I just noticed, even though the front page is my new posts page, and the Mission statement sticky post is at the top, MISSION is on longer in the navbar.
Is that not possible with a post? Thanks so much! I didn’t remember ever changing that in screen options!
Sorry, just one more thing has me puzzled now. There’s a big comment box at the end of this post. Which is kind of silly, since the mission statement isn’t really up for discussion.
So I went to find the Discussion module to turn it off for this post, but that module is completely missing from this post’s “Edit Post” page.
Is that not possible to do for posts?I just got it to work. I had put the old, static page in the trash, but hadn’t emptied the trash yet. Once I emptied the trash, it worked. Sorry, for the false alarm.
That broke the page. I get that “Well, that was embarrassing…” thing. Also, clicking on “MISSION” in the navbar does the same thing.
It was a static page. Now they want it to be static at the top with a blog at the bottom. So I’m trying to do it with a post now. (There are no other posts for the blog yet).
Can I make the posts page (with the static top) the front page with “MISSION” as its permanent link in the navbar?I originally had the mission statement on a page rather than a post, and it was on its own page with a menu selection in the navbar called “MISSION”.
Now I’ve created a post with the contents of that page and checked the box to stick it to the front page. Because of the wording of that check box, I thought maybe the front page should be blank, so it would have someplace to “stick” to. But it’s still blank. So do I have to delete my original “MISSION” page altogether so the MISSION post can go to that spot?
And can I give the MISSION post its own link in the navbar?
I’m a little nervous about deleting anything in case it doesn’t work. The link seems to say that sticky post will put the post at the top until new posts are published.
Am I correct in thinking that is where your suggestion to customize the sticky post’s CSS comes into play, to override that and keep the post at the top even after new posts are published?
I’m using Twenty Eleven theme. I searched the theme’s style.css file for “post_class” and “sticky”, but it didn’t find either.
Am I searching the wrong file, or does Twenty Eleven just not have those?

In reply to: How to avoid problems when customizing Twenty Eleven themeThanks, fonglh! I should have thought of that!
Thanks, esmi, but they’re not giving me ftp access. I don’t know why not.
Thanks to Andrew and kubegusa as well; I’ve passed on your information to our IT person. I’ll see if it sways her, but she seems convinced that I’m only being told not to change the theme because “they” don’t want non-programmers messing with the CSS and PHP. I think I work in crazytown.
