Forum: Plugins
In reply to: Error messages on mobileThanks, esmi. Is there an easy way to find that sub-forum? I don’t see a search field here and there seems to be a lot of sub forums to wade through (I’m guessing it’s in this Plugins and Hacks category, right?)

In reply to: Error messages on mobileQuick update: One of our IT people tried changing that “777” setting on our internet provider’s dashboard and the error message didn’t go away on WordPress.

In reply to: I'm getting comments when I didn't check "Allow comments"I do have Akismet based on something I saw in a Lynda.com video on WordPress, but I haven’t activated it yet because I still wasn’t clear on what it does.

In reply to: Error message: Theme CSS would not download-What does it mean?I just tried deactivating Slickr Flickr temporarily, and the error message went away.
Unfortunately, Slickr Flickr allows me to customize photo captions the way they want them and I haven’t found another plug in that does quite the same thing.
So I guess I need to contact Slickr Flickr’s developer, but I’m not sure that will lead anywhere since I have to use the free version which doesn’t include support.
I don’t suppose knowing that Slickr Flickr is at fault gives you any further clues about what I could do to get rid of the error message myself (besides turning off the plug in)?

In reply to: Error message: Theme CSS would not download-What does it mean?LOL! But I’m happy to be working! ??
Thanks very much! The mention of Galleria threw me; I didn’t realize it was connected with Slickr Flickr. That message went away when I upgraded the plugin.
But the second error message is still there. Any ideas about that one?

In reply to: Error message: Theme CSS would not download-What does it mean?I just noticed another error message at the bottom of my website and I’m even more at a loss as to what this one means:
Warning: Unknown: open(/var/php_sessions/sess_9a457c6ddfec61090e37c7ab66c58713, O_RDWR) failed: No such file or directory (2) in Unknown on line 0 Warning: Unknown: Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (/var/php_sessions) in Unknown on line 0Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated!
Thanks. No error message in Firefox or Opera.
I closed Chrome’s coding console, thinking that might get rid of it, but it didn’t.I just had a thought; Could the fact that I had the Inspect Element Console open in Chrome have anything to do with this error popping up?

In reply to: I created a separate page for my blog, but it can't find itI figured it out! The writer wrote his story directly on the Science page instead of in the posts section of the Dashboard. Once I moved to posts, it worked!
Sorry for the false alarm. Sometimes it helps just to try to explain it to others!Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: I created a separate page for my blog, but it can't find itI forgot to add the URL for the site in case it provides any clues:
https://thecatchconservation.com/Thanks very much for answering so quickly.
I checked and no one else messed with the code, so I wonder what could have happened? The body copy on all my pages is bolder and goes all the way across the pages into the sidebar and a video link to Vimeo seems to be alternating with a Flickr slideshow (when they both should appear at the same time on the same page).
Could any plugins cause random changes like that?

In reply to: Sidebar disappears in ExplorerI finally got it working. I had to delete my custom menu and re-create it. I also had to delete my Widgets Controller plugin.
I had installed the Widgets Controller so I could make sure the PayPal donations widget didn’t show on a Thank You page I created where the user will be taken after making a donation.
Widgets Controller might work fine now that I have re-set the custom menu, but I’m not sure it’s worth the potential trouble in case it doesn’t.
It might not be such a big deal for donors to see the PayPal donation button again after making a donation.
Thanks for all your suggestions!

In reply to: Sidebar disappears in ExplorerIt’s Twenty Eleven, it came with WordPress. But I have to use a lot of Plugins to customize it, because the IT person where I work won’t give me FTP access so I can’t make a child theme.

In reply to: Sidebar disappears in ExplorerYes, it is a static front page. I have checked Settings > Reading repeatedly. My front page is set on “Mission” and my posts page is set on “Science”. I even tried temporarily changing those settings and then changing it back to what I want, thinking that would re-set it, but it didn’t work.
I also tried re-typing the URL in the browser, thinking that might re-set it. It seemed to work at first, but then I clicked on each of the links in the navigation bar to test them (they all worked fine), and when I clicked back to the Mission page it was back to that “Nothing Found” error.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Sidebar disappears in ExplorerOur IT person pointed out that all the other pages except for the front page had the sidebars.
So that made me realize it must have something to do with the fact that they have had me change the front page a few times and it may have been linking to a different version of the front page.
So I deleted the old version of the front page as a blog post and re-created the Mission statement front page, but that seems to have permanently broken the front page: I get a “Nothing Found” error message.
I had also created a new page to hold the blog called “SCIENCE” and I set that page’s order in the Reading settings page, but it won’t show up in the navigation bar. When I go to All Pages in the dashboard, everything is there, as it should be.
Any ideas how to fix this?
