    Hi all,

I am struggling to figure out how to use the tax display on my Woocommerce store. As I am based in EU, I have to charge different VAT depending on which country I ship to. However it is also best practice to display prices in the store including VAT.

My problem is when the customer heads to checkout, they input their address and country and based on that the VAT is calculated nicely. However the problem is prices including the VAT should already be displayed when the customer is browsing in the store. So basically my aim would be that prices/tax/vat is calculated based on the location of the user. Hence without inputing any shipping address, the person would see the price inclusive of VAT, based on their browsing location.

    Thanks for your help!

  • Hi,

If I understood correctly, you would like to show taxes on checkout and before checkout.

By default, if the setting called “Calculate Tax Based On” is set to “Customer shipping address,” the tax will not be calculated until your customer has entered their shipping address on the checkout page. Even well known marketplaces work this way on the web,

Kindly note that WooCommerce doesn’t have access to a user’s location right away, but to support geolocation you can include a third-party service e.g. MaxMind, it will allow you to automatically locate your customers and to show them the relevant taxes.

To learn more, please head to: Integrating MaxMin Geolocation.

I hope this points you in the right direction.
