In reply to: [SI CAPTCHA Anti-Spam] Updating your plug-in fails every timeno, only with this plugin. And when it fails, I’m obviously deleting the plugin and all its files in order to load the newer one. Then when a newer new one comes out, I repeat the whole process.
So right now, I am running v2.7.7.7 and can see what happens when it gets rev’ed again.

In reply to: Permalinks with "jordan" returns 404?would a few of you try this for me??
Go to a blog post that is older (so it doesn’t interfere with fresh readers) and add “jordan” anywhere in your permalink and tell me if it 404s on you.
For sake of example since this is a problem I can confirm, I took a page that loads just fine and copied the code exactly “as is” and created a new post to illustrate the problem:
This one works: https://snowmobile-alliance.org/news/2004/11/black-hills-national-forest/
This one doesn’t: https://snowmobile-alliance.org/news/2004/11/black-hills-national-forest-jordan/Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [SI CAPTCHA Anti-Spam] Updating your plug-in fails every timeWhat always happens is this:
From the WP plugin page, I see there’s a new version, so I click to update.
WP then downloads the update, unpacks it, installs it, attempts to remove the old version and then reports that it “could not remove old plugin” and ends with a “Plugin update failed” message. If I could upload a screen shot, I still have have the one from when this first happened with WP 3.7.1.
My site still works, but then I have to run FTP and delete the folder before I can reinstall the new version…and I generally have to wait a while (a few hours) before something unlocks the files, because FTP will always give me an error if I try to delete right after I attempt the upgrade.
I hate updating this plugin because I know I’ll have to go through this hassle every time.

In reply to: Permalinks with "jordan" returns 404?Hello?
I’ve been troubleshooting this for a while now, including a direct login to the database to search for *anything* with the word “jordan” in it. After deleting everything I could find related to “jordan” and re-testing this, it changed nothing!
What would cause this unexpected 404 behavior??

In reply to: Permalink conversion should not be this tough!being new to WP, I set up a site (blog.myfavoritekitchen.com) using many of the WP defaults. now reading about tips and tricks to make it better, I see how permalinks should be changed to help with search indexing and such. so I’m trying to go from the default format to /%postname%/ and all I get is 404 wherever I click on the site.
I’m on a Windows host so I tried the php.ini trick as well as messing around with .htaccess. Nothing changed…

In reply to: Problem with comments and published pagesok, so I might have to make it a sticky post until we find a new theme or get this Blue Drop one fixed (I’ve already contacted the developer).

In reply to: Problem with comments and published pagesthe more I dig around this support forum, the more I’m thinking it’s my theme that’s causing my problem! if I change the current Blue Drop 1.4.1 theme to WordPress Default 1.6 or WordPress Classic 1.5, the comments appear to work just fine. Grrrrrrrr!!!!

In reply to: Discussion Setting: E-mail me whenever anyone posts a commentThat previous solution reads:
“I just read more closely and found out that emails are only generated for the person who wrote the post that is receiving the comment. This explains why the multi comment plugin I linked to above works. Apparently wordpress will only send an email to the person who wrote the post and not the general admin email which I thought was supposed to happen. Hope this is clear and helps someone else.”
I can see my mistake was allowing the general admin to be the post author. I have since separated the two and created an “author” account. Unfortunately after submitting a few test comments on older posts, no mail is being delivered.
I’m still thinking there’s still has to be some outgoing mail server setting that needs to be configured with info from my site host??
