The situation at the moment is that I’ve moved all the files for the new site to the root directory.

When you put in the domain name in the browser you go to the correct index page but when you click on any of the links you’re sent back to the “newsite” directory.

Obviously the database hasn’t updated to the new urls.

Unfortunately that hasn’t worked.

Maybe it’s better to do it through phpmyadmin?

Does anyone have any experience of this.

It’s getting urgent and I’d really appreciate some advice.

But my concern is, my client wants to add new content and access the site before it goes live.

So, how do I develop the new theme and allow my client to see those changes without overwriting the existing site?

Are they relative rather than absolute paths?

By the way, yes, I’ve created a new category “Start a new topic” but can’t find wp_dropdown_categories

So I need to create a new category and add a post to it?

I had the full pate the url in the miscellaneous settings – I must have misunderstood earlier advise.

NOW I can get the site finished.

Well, I’ve put an uploads folder in the root directory and in the wp-content directory and the path in the admin settings points to the one in the root directory.

Sorry, don’t understand this chmod 777 stuff. Can you give me a bit more detail on this pls.
