    Hello again,

I’ve now found that the issue was an incompatibility between the WebP plugin and Cloudflares Polish image optimisation. Turning off Polish resolves the issue which isn’t ideal as I’d like to use Polish for image optimisation but glad to have finally found the root of the problem.

    Thanks,

    Jo

    Hi Mateusz,

After some more testing I don’t think it is to do with htaccess caching by Cloudflare after all.

However the issue does appear to be some weirdness going on between the plugin and Cloudflare’s cache.

I tested the caching of the htaccess using 301 redirects and found that the htaccess didn’t cache at all as I added & removed redirects, they worked first time on clearing the browser cache.
So I’m a little confused as to what’s going on.

I’ll explain the issue in more detail and hopefully you’ll be able to suggest further testing I can do to get to the bottom of this.

If I load the site in Safari with all caches cleared everything works normally. Jpgs are loaded just fine.

If I then load the site in Chrome WebP images load perfectly.

If I then go back to Safari some images fail to load (but the jpg URLs appear correctly and can be loaded in Chrome). If I try to open those image in a new tab in Safari the image is downloaded instead. If I then try to open the downloaded image on my mac is says:
“The file cannot be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognise.”

If I inspect that file it turns out it’s actually a WebP file (just with a jpg file extension) which is why it can’t be opened in Safari or my Mac.

However if I find the file on the server and download it, it is the regular jpg file. The webP file your plugin creates has the webp file extension.

So Cloudflare appears to be serving the webp image with a jpg file extension… or is it? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Jo

    Hi Mateusz,

Sure no problem, I’m actually having some trouble getting cloudflare to stop caching the htaccess so as soon as I’ve got that sorted I’ll come back and provide the steps here.

    Thanks,

Just an update – I’ve had a look into this a little more and found that Cloudflare was caching the htaccess file, so once I’d loaded images in Chrome, if I then went to Safari, cleared the Safari cache, then those pictures wouldn’t load because of the htaccess redirect to the webP version.
So I have prevented htaccess caching in Cloudflare and that appears to have resolved the issue entirely.

    Thanks

Thank you for the explanation as well, so you’re saying once the htaccess file has been read by Chrome, when loading in Safari the cached htaccess rules are applied in Safari?

    Hello Mateusz,

You were totally right, it was down to Cloudflare’s cache, purging it resolved the issue.

    Thank you!

    Hello,

I have tested with the latest update of the plugin (0.9.1) and am still getting a blank white screen on the settings page with the following console error:

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 () options-general.php?page=webp_express_settings_page:1

I have tried uninstalling the plugin and reinstalling but it didn’t resolve the issue.

In answer to the kind of server being run, it’s using Plesk which I think is the NGINX/Apache setup, I’m not sure if that is as described in the link you shared, I’m not able to access to server config to really check it out.

Do you have any other suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Jo

    Hi Roselldk,

I’m sorry for taking so long to reply, I must have missed the email notification I received.
I’m not entirely sure how the server is set up, I just ran it through builtwith but will get more detail for you if your update hasn’t solved the issue. I’ll try it out tomorrow.

    Thanks,

    Jo

    Hello Rokas,

So it’s using the exchange rate when it shouldn’t be? The plugin is set not to use an exchange rate so if a price isn’t entered it should show an unavailable.

Please can you tell me when this bug will be fixed? Otherwise I will need to ask for a refund as I need to complete this project asap.

    Regards

    Jo

Yes, it IS my opinion, which is exactly what a review is.

What annoyed me most was that in one of your updates all of the classes and entire layout of the videos completely changed. I’ve never had that happen with any plugin before and think that it’s inconsiderate of you, th developers, to do this because it assumes that people won’t want to add their own CSS to compliment the plugin’s existing CSS (by this I dont mean changing the plugin’s core files as I understand that they will be overwritten when updating).

I’m sure you would be very helpful if I contacted you but I prefer to solve my own problems, and in this example I decided to solve it by using something else.

Don’t take my 2 star review as and insult, take it as constructive criticism which is how it was intended.

    Using add_image_size('yarpp-thumbnail', '256', '165', true); doesn’t work

That’s great. Followed your instructions and it worked a treat.
    Much appreciated!

Oddly enough the error message has disappeared for me now.

Maybe it’s a bug wordpress is working on and it’s slightly different for different themes?

Will post on here if it comes back & if I find a solution elsewhere.

I would also like to create a hover effect =)

    Thanks
