In reply to: Modifying Kubrick for 1024×768The best option if you don’t like the idea of a fixed 800 wide layout is a fluid layout that will adjust according to the viewers window size.
If you design for only 1024×768 you risk alienating a huge part of the potential audience.

In reply to: Modifying Kubrick for 1024×768According to W3C statistics from July of this year, 25% of people are using 800×600.
I don’t think you can count 1 in 4 people as ‘hardly anyone’.

In reply to: Internet Explorer for Mac – bugsI’d agree with that, generally only sadists try to get everything looking right in IE for the Mac. Also, getting IE Mac to play nicely quite often means breaking standards.
I’d rather have a valid page that doesn’t look right in IE Mac than an invalid page that does.
Also, I think the amount of people using this browser is so tiny now that it’s not worth the effort, and those that do use it realise how badly it renders because it does it uniformly across the web.

In reply to: Ok, I’m ready for a reviewThe header image is a bit too huge in my opinion, if you had an 800×600 screen res, it would be about the only thing you’d see when you open the site.

In reply to: Our WP site for our ChapelI like it, everything is very clean and simple, and easy to read and navigate.
Like pemt, I prefer a fixed width layout, which IMO should always be to fit into a 800px wide screen. 760px is a very safe width to allow for different browsers. In a couple of years maybe we’ll be safe designing for a min width of 1024, but we are not there yet by a long way.

In reply to: Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down by Fall Out BoyNot sure how it’s supposed to look, but in both Safari and Firefox on OS X, the flickr column is hanging to the right edge of the browser window. At 1024 resolution it just looks wrong and away from all other content, and at 800 it is partially underneath the header image.
Personally I think your header image is too big, I like to see a bit of content as well when I open the page.

In reply to: Yet another WordPress blog is bornI like it, the only problem I can see is that the posting date to the left of the post title is difficult to read being grey on grey.

In reply to: therub.netI have replaced the header image, the old one was only supposed to be temporary, but I never got around to changing it. ifelse was right though, it did look a bit tacky (was actually chalkboard, not comic sans).
I think it’s a huge improvement.

In reply to: therub.netThanks for the comments.
Yes the title icons are category based.
The sidebar will have some more content very soon, so won’t look quite as bleak and empty hopefully.
Will run through and look for empty paragraphs, lists and headings.
The archive page needs some definate work, will be doing that over the weekend.
