I really appreciate your sharing this!
This is exactly where I’d like to see this bridge going in the future. I will be following your progress closely and I hope to be able to help.

In reply to: Help with WP to SMF PluginHello bryandjo,
I am hoping to automate this feature soon. For the moment, you can do it with the IFRAME command, and there is documentation available for this in the SMF forum. I am not overly familiar with the feature myself, so I will not elaborate.
cheers

In reply to: Importing WP posts, etc. into SMF?Hello jamestl2,
The answer….sort of!
The best so far is within the “Theme Integration” options of the WP_SMF admin page. It’s not quite as advanced as what you seem to be looking for, though.
SMF has some great SSI features which may help. And definitley, with some php work, you can perfect it.
Other than that, I’m working on automating some of these integration features, but I am not done yet.
cheers

In reply to: Import SMF posts into WordPressHello Amy,
Unfortunately, this is news to me. My bridge is currently hosted on WordPress, which they approved. For this reason, I would have to assume that, at this time, they have no concerns about the GPL licensing. As well, I could easily license the bridge under GPL since it was not created by SMF.
Having said that, you do make a good point and there is always the possibility that WordPress or SMF could ask for the development to cease.

In reply to: SMF and WordPressHello there,
The bridge has basically been completed for smf integration with wordpress…try this:

In reply to: Comments on the SMF BridgeJust a reminder to those new to the bridge:
It’s a two-part bridge. WP_SMF is hosted on WordPress, and installs as a plugin into WordPress. It must be under the directory “wp-content/plugins/wp_smf/”. It must also be configured under the admin panel under “Plugins->SMF”.
The second part of the bridge, the “twin plugin”, is called SMF_Wordpress. It is installed as a regualar plugin into SMF. It can be downloaded here:

Let me know how it goes for all of you!

In reply to: Help with WP to SMF PluginThanks for getting back and calling us all geniuses Kate ??
I always welcome ego boosts, but I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you.
If you run into the situation in the future, the current bridge is beginning to be quite stable.

I’m glad it worked out ??

In reply to: Import SMF posts into WordPressI can try…but you need to be more specific.
What are you doing? Are you installing SMF? Are you using my bridge?
When do you get the error?
All I can say from what you’ve shown me is that your server isn’t giving you the authority to access your database…and it looks like that’s because it’s trying to access smf information from your wordpress database.

In reply to: Import SMF posts into WordPressWell, lol…
That sort of thing will be my next project, but I’m in no rush. The WP_SMF bridge is already, or very nearly stable now. Unfortunately, it only functions for user integration at this stage.
As for site integration…you can display most recent posts, etc…in wordpress using the brige. As for importing…not at this stage. I will certainly consider the idea moving forward.
Please do let me know if you figure a way out first!

In reply to: Unique account for WP & SMFok, well let me know how it goes!
Mambo is a pretty powerful little cms. I’m not sure how well it works with wordpress, but I believe it can be done.

In reply to: Unique account for WP & SMFok,
well all I can recommend is that, as doodlebee pointed out, you can do all of the things you described with WordPress.
To the user, WP_SMF bridge basically feels like one unique account. In effect, you would get what you want. I wouldn’t really consider it a “trick”, as it allows both programs to be fully functional and freestanding.
If you try to create just one database table for users, you will end up significantly altering both wordpress and smf, which means they will not be compatible with anything else you mentioned on your list.
if I may suggest…have a look at tinyportal.net as well. Should be completely compatible with this bridge. cheers.
