Did you try using 800 X 600 pictures? I know some sites treat thumbnail photos very differently then others.

    Disabled all plugins. No change.

I already use the Twenty Ten theme. You have a particular version I should try? There is no XXX or 30 theme.

Try 800 X 600 pictures…otherwise that test isn’t the same conditions as my setup.

OK, try this. Write some test text in a new post. Then below that, add a picture. Then go above the picture and try to write another line. That line will become a link automatically even if you don’t want it to be. (So you have to correct by deleting it as there is no longer the broken link button to toggle it off, someone took that broken link button out back when this started happening…which kind of implies someone was working on the link editing features).

Then go below the picture and start typing. Change your mind about what you’re typing and backspace. If you try typing again, it is now a link.

Now put in two pictures at once. And try to add text between them. Cursor shows up as a link.

This is different and slightly better than it was. It’s changed recently. But still annoying.

I do have a work around, but it’s an annoyance I’d like to see fixed.

I don’t know how to respond to that. It happens on my site.

It happens whenever and wherever I try to create a new post. And has been happening for a year, maybe a couple years now. It did not do that before, and it started happening immediately after an upgrade. I don’t recall which upgrade may have caused it because I expected it to be fixed the next upgrade so ignored it. Several upgrades later it’s still doing it.

I don’t mess with the form and function of the setup much at all. I had not been doing any self generated upgrades to form or function at the time. It’s been pretty much the same for years now.

Still having to deal with this annoying ‘feature’. Anyone?

    Thread Starter Jim@HiTek

    (@jimhitek)

Yes. Actually that seems to be the default. I don’t actively set it that way.

OK, installed Health Check, activated it, and nothing changed as far as editing a post goes. I did see the new theme so I know Health Check was running.

During editing, WP still wants to insert a ‘Link’ when I just try to add text near or between photos. That’s with all my plug-ins Deactivated. And I still only see a ‘Link’ in the editing icon bar but no ‘Unlink’. Clicking on Link once it’s auto-activated does not turn it off like I would expect it too.

Thanks for your help, but no change so far. (BTW, I am aware of the work-arounds for this issue but like I said, it’s annoying. Here I am working hard at creating a post, and than get pulled up short by something I don’t expect to happen and have to back up and fix. Takes me out of the moment).

Like I said, I’ve tried the manual upgrade but I get error messages and pages of code I don’t understand when trying to follow the manual instructions.

The link you show above leads to an empty page.
