I’ve done some searching and find no documentation for manually uninstalling wordpress, or uninstalling using cPanel.

    What do I do now?

I’ve found the wp documentation and read the information on installing using cPanel. Call me an idiot, but I still really don’t understand it.

When creating the database on this server, there is no user name. The only thing there is, is a password.

When you uninstall it deletes all the files. There isn’t anything left for me to delete.

The webhost is Cbeyond and it has been a nightmare. This is not my site, but I’ve been trying to help someone whose webdesigner left him in a mess.

    cPanel? (control panel?)

What do you mean by manual install? How would I accomplish this?

And do I have to delete files from the “etc” subfolder (where the wordpress folders are) manually as well?

    Okay, this is pretty strange.

I just looked at his site (allflooringinc) and a lot of the problem areas are gone – he had to menus side by side, two different styles, now there’s only the one.

So I’m guess there was a wordpress, and someone deleted some of the files which made the mess of the layout.

Maybe I should try installing in the root folder?

Sorry I should have given you mine as well:

What I’m doing basically is using my template for his site, with new graphics and a small flash logo I made him.

I guess I’m not expressing myself very well.

There are NO OLD FILES on the server space. There are two folders that look like they belong to WP, but all that’s in them is image files.

There are files, but they aren’t wordpress files. I don’t know what they are. The guy’s website is a mess. I’m not seeing the files I would expect to see if wordpress were installed.

But the install I uploaded keeps insisting there’s an old wordpress on it…if so, I can’t find it.

But – if you don’t mind another question – how would I know if mySQL was installed on this server? There’s only a copy of files I recognize – one for enabling FrontPage extensions and one for another microsoft program.

I don’t follow you. I have the same files, same template as what I put on my own website and I made two installations there in two separate folders.

Anyway, I don’t have a control panel in this server. There’s nothing but a webroot folder, a bunch of files that have no resemblance to wordpress and the wordpress folder (subfolder) with the new install in it.

There is no other wordpress files, there is no dashboard…nothing. So I’m pretty I sure I don’t have this fatastico installer you’re talking about, unless it’s part of wordpress.

    I’m afraid you lost me.

How do I create a new database? I thought that was created when you do the install?

I’m afraid I don’t understand the table prefix thing and I don’t even see any wp-config.php in the root or in the wordpress file (there’s a wp-config-sample.php, but it’s empty – totally blank).

I’m thinking someone might have deleted the files without uninstalling wordpress maybe. Because looking at the files that are in the webroot, none of them really resemble the files you have after a wordpress install. I’d don’t get it.

Would you be kind enough to tell what should be in the file, and where the heck I am supposed to put it (the config file) – in the webroot, where there’s a bunch of weird files, or in my wordpress folder?

Essentially, wordpress will not be used for a blogging site, it will be the website, so I need it to be able to use the domain name, as opposed to what’s there now.

Sorry, I didn’t have this trouble when I set mine up.

Yeah, occasionally it is the images, but currently my problem is getting to keep my tables centered. (the image on my home page…can’t remember if it was set for center, but it’s going to be replaced by a small slideshow.)

Thanks for the link and tip on image classes – that will be helpful. I had to do some editing to the style-sheet and some of the template pages to make a blog into a website, so now I’m wondering of I edited something OUT. I’ll have to look back at the original file, but I’m pretty sure I didn’t mess with any image settings. (sigh)…

progress is sometimes good, but when an old-fogey brain has to adjust, it doesn’t always work. I still live in the land of html; css and php is a nightmare for me.

Appreciate the help – I could only wish it were a permanent fix.

(The raw-html widget is pretty helpful in trying to turn off a few things…like auto paragraphs.)

and I should mention…you can put adsense onto your wp blog without a widget…it’s not that tough.

my question would be is this a legal display of ads based on the google adsense TOS?

I’m thinking it might not be.

oof…I read through the link but the php and database stuff…I really don’t get all of that.

Yahoo has a “backup my site” function that I assume backs up everything from the root directory down. For now, I’ll just use that.

My POG website (minus the Life in Orillia blog) is already backed-up in FrontPage and the data from that is stored in 2 places.

I’m not too worried about the Life in Orillia blog – I have all the files from the original install stored on an external HD. Since I post to that from windows live writer I store a copy of all posts on the computer before I publish to the blog.

    Hopefully that will be enough.

I’ve been a little nervous to go forward with this though, mainly because I’ve been reading through the Install forum and there have been quite a lot of people having problems with version 2.7.1.

I thought about using the version I initially downloaded for my other blog, but it’s something like 2.3.

Anyway, thank you again for taking the time to help. Much appreciated.

That’s wonderful – thanks so much for the help. I’ll be working on getting it up and running this week.

    You’re a peach!
