    Hi Aesqe,

Sorry but it sounds like I don’t understand fully how to use this plugin and was, perhaps, only getting lucky with the great result I got for a couple of years using it. I don’t even use any short code that I am aware of. At least I never manually inserted any short code in the post as some gallery plugins require. I simply went to the post and File Gallery would show all of the available images below the post. I would either select “Insert Gallery” or I would select a number of images by “cont + click” and then select “Insert Single Files”. That would be it. The plugin would insert the images into the post automatically without me adding any short code. When I would update the post it would show perfectly on the blog with all of the thumbnails evenly sized at about 1″ wide by 3/4″ high. I have “jQuery Lightbox For Native Galleries” installed and when I would click on any of the thumbnails they would show in a lightbox, one at a time, in their various original sizes as a full size image.

I have searched the Internet, including YouTube, for a File Gallery tutorial but, surprisingly, I haven’t been able to find any. There are scads of tutorials for lesser quality image gallery plugins out there but I can’t find any for this excellent plugin.

    Thanks

    Hi Aesqe,

Thanks so much for the response. Here’s what’s strange. Up until about 90 days ago I had most of these same photos in this gallery and it cropped them and made all the thumbnails uniform for nearly 600 images in this gallery. File gallery worked beautifully. Then, for some unknown reason, these same images started to show the varying sized thumbnails. I thought it was due to an issue with a WordPress update or some such thing.

When you say, “If you want your galleries to look uniform, with all thumbnails of same size, you’ll need to choose an appropriate thumbnail size for gallery display” would you mind telling me the steps to take to achieve this?

    Thanks

Sorry for the delayed response and I appreciate your prompt reply. I will try to post a link to an example again.

Here’s an example of the problem.

Oops. Link didn’t work. I have to leave and will try again later.

Thanks so much for the kind response Aesqe. I saw another post here where someone else is having the same problem.

    Thanks

    Here’s an example.

Oops. I got it resolved. I used the gallery short code instead of the single video codes and all is good now. I liked the single video codes because they didn’t have the little play arrow icon obstructing part of the thumbnail view. It would be nice to have control over the play arrow so the size and opacity of the arrow could be reduced and/or faded out.

    Thanks

Thanks so much. Version 1.7.7 took care of the problem. All is good now.

Thanks AITpro. I didn’t have time to list all the plugins right now (I am probably using too many) so I deactivated/reactivated them and all is good now.

As usual your support is the best in the business. Thanks SO much.

Thanks so much cartpauj. You are right. It was a security plugin that was messing up the htaccess file. I restored a generic htaccess file and all is good now.

    Thank you

Thanks for the information and education. I know this is taking a lot of your time.

It sounds like the best thing to do, obviously, is set up difficult user’s names and passwords. And you have been too gracious to come right out and say it but it sounds like one should forget using any security plugin except BulletProof Security.

It sounds like a good, and much easier, plan to me.

Hi AITpro. I understand your point about the futility of trying to “hide” the wp-login especially when it comes to bots. And I certainly don’t want to butt in but would like to run something by you, if you will please bear with me.

When you think about home security it is really pointless to try to keep it safer from intrusion by closing and locking the windows. And yet, most of us do it. Realistically, however, if an intruder wants in he will simply knock the window out and come on in. Closing and locking the windows simply helps keep the “honest” people out by making things a bit more difficult than it would be if it were a total cakewalk with the windows wide open.

Obviously the comparison falls down when you use it in the case of merging BWPS and BPS because BulletProof Security is no where near like having the windows open as it thoroughly locks down a blog on its own. And yet, rightly or wrongly, I think bloggers who use Better WP Security have an added sense of security by using the “re-name the database” and “hide the backend” features of this plugin. Even if it only deters the less devious among us.

And here is where I need to be very careful not to be seen as if I’m butting into your business. I think you and your BPS plugin are doing an amazing job. And yet one could imagine how nice it would be if it were possible for you to eliminate all of these support questions about merging BWPS and BPS and at the same time help the users of your plugin to have all of the features they are now trying to hobble together by using two plugins.

From a coding standpoint would it be terribly difficult to add the “re-name the database” and “hide the backend” features to BulletProof Security? I’m just posing the question as someone who hasn’t a clue about coding so I hope you will take the question in stride. If the task weren’t too difficult you would end up with a plugin that is even more widely beloved than it already is and your new support response to questions about merging Better WP Security and BulletProof Security may be something like this…

“You don’t need to. BullettProof Security takes care of everything you are looking for on its own”

Thanks again for all your patience and kind support AITpro. If I ever get this to work I will post back. I certainly don’t want you to continue to spin your wheels on this, but do appreciate all you have done.

Update: I had at least two blogs that were working with the latest versions of WP Better Security and BulletProff Security. Although they worked initially they stopped working at some point over the past few days (it may have happened when I did a recent update of WP Better Security). I think I need to go with BPS and find another way to “hide” the back end. I have another plugin that does that and may try it and forget WP Better Security.

Interesting. Thanks for that. I stopped using WP Super Cache because it can be absolutely satanic if you have problems with it and uninstall it without doing it a certain way. I switched to WP Quick Cache and did clear the cache but will try clearing the cache again and turning it off as I go through the BPS setup routine. Thanks.

Yes. Tried everything except the default theme. I will give that a go early next week and if it works will report back. I wish all support were as wonderful as yours has been. Thanks so much.
