    I am new to website ops, themes and plugins.

    I am concerned about disabling plugins and switching to anither theme to test this plugin.

    If I do this … Afterwards when I turn plugins back on and restore my Theme … Will everything be back like it was?

    I sure as don’t want to mess up everything I’ve worked so hard to set up. Please clarify if this is a harmless diagnostic thing to do that can be restored.

    I will check with my Host and make sure their email service is working.

    You are very kind to get back to me. I am new at fooling around w websites so everything is a challenge. Couple more questions

    1) thanks for showing me the login/registration screen on my site.
    I’m still not exactly clear how a new visitor sees it.
    Do they have to add wp-login to the website address themselves to see it?

    2) Exactly how do I create that Login screen on my front page like you described?
    I would rather not use a text widget

    3) My ultimate goal is for visitors to have to register/login to be see any part of the website?
    Is there a WordPress way to do this?
    I have read about some plugins that seem to have this function but need to get the logging in part working first. Is there a plugin you recommend if I cant achieve this with WordPress?

    But there is NO Logon Screen.

    Look at my website: https://www.telliconewvillagers.com.
    When visitors come to the site, they land on my front “About” home page. There is no place for them to Register or Login.

    And, I WANT people to login. How or where do I direct or encouraged them to login.
    I would think that the WordPress Login screen would we visible??

    Tell me what you see. Maybe I’m missing something.

    Thanks

    Also … Are there any screen shots or sample websites to see what it looks like??

    Thread Starter JFlynnRN

    (@jflynnrn)

    sorry – yes I activated it but nothing changed and my site is still open for all to see. And, there is no registration screen.

    Any ideas on what is going on???

    Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

    As attractive as the Pro version sounds, it is WAY beyond the needs for our little retirement Community Neighborhood website.
    We aren’t selling anything and the site is just for club members to see information about activities and events going on. There is no posting or discussion.

    The reason we want it password restricted is that there is a lot of member info – names, emails etc – that the group doesn’t want Spammers or Local merchants to easily get ahold of. (there have been some issues with this already)

    I will try a couple of login/registration programs and hope there are no problems.

    Hi rijendra

    I have put the text box with the New Villagers photo/link back on the website on the first page.

    I tried the code you provided:

    <div style="text-align:center;" >
    <a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cLCdYSV-Xl4HYueQi2R0oSE8HenkXQUnNthHr6REmUs/edit?usp=sharing">
    <img src="https://www.telliconewvillagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Newsletter-Scan.jpg "/>
    </a>
    </div>

    The photo is there but when you click on it …. it does not take me to the google.com where the whole newsletter is.

    The URL and other site information is:
    https://www.telliconewvillagers.com
    Wordpress vs 3.8.1
    Hueman Theme vs 1.3.7

    Hope you can help me figure out why this isn’t working.
    Thanks for helping.

    Sorry … my code didn’t transfer in the previous message. Here is what I typed in the Text widget box:

    <div style="text-align:center;" >
    <a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cLCdYSV-Xl4HYueQi2R0oSE8HenkXQUnNthHr6REmUs/edit?usp=sharing">
    <img src=" https://www.telliconewvillagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Newsletter-Scan.jpg "/>
    </a>

    Here’s what I have done that hasn’t worked:

    #1. I used a Text Widget.
    I used the URL of my scanned jpeg image that is located in the WP Media Library.
    I used the Link to my google.doc account which is where the Newsletter is contained.

    I entered:

    <div style="text-align:center;" >
    <a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cLCdYSV-Xl4HYueQi2R0oSE8HenkXQUnNthHr6REmUs/edit?usp=sharing">
    <img src=" https://www.telliconewvillagers.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Newsletter-Scan.jpg "/>
    </div>|

    When that didn’t work …. I changed the link to google.com to another link that is proven to work on the Text Link I have on another page.
    This link is:

    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cLCdYSV-Xl4HYueQi2R0oSE8HenkXQUnNthHr6REmUs/edit?pli=1

    #2 When using a Text Widget didn’t work, I tried using a “Link” widget. I used the same addresses in the appropriate boxes when I entered a “new Link” in the WP Dashboard area. This didn’t work either. I got the same “BlueHost / Error 404” messages again about not able to find the web page.

    FYI: As I mentioned …. both of the Links to the Newsletter in google.com work just fine when applied to the words “TEXT HERE” on another page in the website setting Links the “normal” WP way in page settings.

    I’m wondering if the problem has something to do with the URL address of the scanned image of the Newsletter.

    Oh Well …. I hope you can help me figure out what the problem is and fix it. I have several other photos/links I would like to do the same thing with.

    I have an image (Scanned pic of my newsletter Heading) which I put in a Sidebar on the front page of my site.

    Have tried using both a “Text” sidebar and a”Link” sidebar.
    In each case, I think I have followed the directions I have learned about. 1) put the photo URL reference in WP and 2) put the Link to my google.doc account where the complete newsletter is located.

    Regardless…. it’s not working.
    When I click on the picture of my newsletter on my website front page… I get taken to a “BlueHost Temp Site” – followed by a 404 Error page saying it can’t find the location specified.

    BUT … if I go to the actual Newsletter page on my website, the exact same Link I placed on THAT page takes you immediately to the google.doc website and my newsletter. (This Link is just attached to a word “HERE” on the page.

    Why is the other link in the sidebar on my front page not working ?
    What can I do to correct this ??

    Thanks for your help

    Hi Alex & Augustin56.
    NO FREAKING WAY am I going to change themes. This theme is great and I already worked my way thru most of my issues.

    I think I found a work-around regarding putting a small logo-photo AND my site name on my header. I placed the logo-picture just fine using the theme option.

    Then, I noticed that the site tag was displaying. So … I turned the site tag into the site name. The bad news is that the site tag is in a very small font size. I have used Firebug to locate the css code and change that font to a bold and larger and the padding to center it up better to the logo-photo. (Haven’t made it permanent yet because I wanted to see if Alex had any reason this would NOT be a good option. I’m thnking it looks great.

    Now I’ve just got to find the file where the css code lines I need to chance is located so I can make this Firebug option permanent !!

    Making progress here. Still having problems with photos and captions but that’s another subject.

    Alex you are sooo great to respond so quickly and help me/us.

    Can you please give me complete details on how you got rid of the hover-overs and have photos with the caption showing at the bottem.

    I hate these hover overs.

    I am a newbie and don’t totally understand this web business.

    My web site is: https://www.telliconewvillagers.com
    Check out the Member page. I want these people’s names showing.

    I have WordPress vs 3.8.1 and am using the theme Hueman.

    Thanks for your help
