What on earth? Now it’s fine again, and all I did was restart my computer.

I always block referrers, but I also always allow them for certain sites, such as my blog. It was fine before when I changed the title of the blog (due to moving domains), but then I’m assuming something changed and the error begain popping up.

I actually only installed RefControl due to this very problem, just to check if referrers were really being sent, and they were. No matter what I do though, I can’t seem to get it working. I’ve also cleared cookies and the wordpress cache.

    application/xhtml+xml as opposed to text/html

Hmm, that could be the issue. They do have the same IP address. If that’s the cause, then I guess I don’t have much to worry about. Do people with multiple blogs on the same site have this type of problem?

They’re two separate sites with different names databases. I don’t understand why they would end up locking one another out.

Since I used the backup, both my usernames and passwords are the same for both installations.

Hmmm, I’ll describe what I did in more detail:

    1. Made an .sql backup of 1.2.2 installation.
    2. Created a new database.
    3. Modified wp-config.php to reflect the database.
    4. Restored the backup to the new database.
    5. Used phpMyAdmin to modify the site and home URIs.
    6. Uploaded WP 2.0 files and ran upgrade.php.
    7. Logged into WP 2.0 and all was working.

    8. Tried logging back into 1.2.2 and it wouldn’t let me (kept redirecting back to login screen).

    9. Cleared cookies, cache and restarted computer.

    10. I have the login problem where I can login to one but not the other (depends which I choose first). If I restart or wait a while (maybe it has something to do with sessions?), I can choose which one I can login to again, but upon doing so I can’t login into the other… and repeat.

The actual installations work correctly by themselves. I described the upgrade process so it would be clear what I did and if they could contribute to the login problem. The only problem I have is with the login. I could just delete my old installation completely and it would be fine, but I’d like to figure out the cause of the problem so I can avoid it in future.

I checked the databases (sql backup) for both sites and made sure that in each of them there were no references to the other site.

Ah ok. Thanks for the help ??

Ok something really is odd now, despite me changing all the URIs. I have the two installations: 1.2.2 and 2.0, but when I log onto to one of them, I can’t log onto the other.

I can successfully log into one admin panel, and use all the controls within. I can log out and log back in again. When I go to the other admin panel, I get the login screen, and I just keep getting the login screen no matter how many times I try and login in. If I close the tab and go directly back into the admin panel, I can get to the dashboard but as soon as I click on another link I get redirected back to the login page.

If I restart my computer, I can choose to login to either one and login successfully but upon doing so I can’t login to the other one.

I have everything working fine on my new domain now. I guess I could just delete my old installation, although I don’t understand why it broke.

    Thanks for the help.

Should I change the site URL before or after running upgrade.php?

I emptied the database and re-uploaded a backup since my old installation was affected somehow (it’s on a completely different site with a different database, user and password so how it broke it beyond me).

Ouch. No I never did change the URI. How easy would it be to change it directly?

Ah ok. I installed everything on a new site (the old blog is in tact). The problem is now I can’t access my new admin panel; it just keeps redirecting back to my old installation.

Is it possible for me to do a clean install and then upload a backup from 1.2.2?

I’m changing the site name (and hence database name) too, so I’m wondering if that would throw all the permalinks off or something.
