I had a similar problem but a different plugin. The wp-super-cache plugin was causing the same error.
My search on the internet brought many different solutions, but some of them require access to the server files. Something which my host doesn’t give me clearance.
I changed php version from 5.3 to 5.4 and that fixed the problem for me.
