So if I had the yoast premium subscription, would I be able to get an answer, an opinion from a live person, for the question that I posted, Without having to read a bunch of documents and courses?

Thanks so much Krishna. Since I had the owner part already set to read only, would it be ok to set the file permission mode at 400?

Just two more questions if you don’t mind:
    1. When I add wp-config.php (in 404 mode) to my url in my browser, the file does not open. Why not if it’s public? Is there another way for someone to read that file if the permissions were set to read, as it was before this post at 404?

    2. And if “Write” is not allowed for user/owner in 404 mode, why am I able to edit the file and upload it via ftp?

    Thanks so much.

    CJ,

I want to remove the code and email address because that is what Google Webmaster Tools recommends before before verifying myself as the owner.

And as someone who has had his website severely hacked for the last year by offshore hackers, I have to ask why it is that YOU ask the questions you do? If I were not the owner, how do you think I could upload an edited header.php file? How do I know YOU are not connected with those hackers?

Rachel answered my question without asking the kind of questions you did. So you see, that throws up a red flag about you, from my perspective.

So plese CJ, educate me and tell me why you need the information YOU asked for. Are you connected to those hackers? Thanks

Thanks so much Rachel, it was in the header.php file. I’m guessing the code was originally entered manually in the header.php by my original programmer (long since gone), who listed himself as the owner, before adding me later.

I want to disable it since it allows users to post email addresses and url’s, which Google does not seem to like anymore.

Thanks so much for your help Michael. I would really appreciate it if you could take a look at my website.

    1. Most of the spam was for womens clothing sales, which has nothing to do with insurance claims advice. My database was around 30 meg and dropped to 15 meg after deleting all the spam.

    2. 99 percent of the website content is insurance claim questions and answers by experts. Im not sure how you define “human focused content”. I have been in insurance claims for 32 years and have learned much. There are also many insurance professionals who use RSS feeds to monitor the website.

    3. re Webmaster Guidelines, I dont have a sitemap because an SEO guy a few years back advised against it. Dont rememner why. And one expert recently said I had too many embedded links on my “Claims Resources” page (right sidebar), which totally baffeled me since they were links to legitimate claims resources to the benefit of users. It actually hurt my website by referring users away from my site. So I have removed ALL embeded links from the website.

I would again appreciate it if you could take a look at insuranceclaimhel.p.org and give me your opinion as to why the big traffic drop.

Hmmm … Ok, so if I had some tables that were full of spam and malware and bad URLs, but they were not displayed on the WordPress website to the public, then the robots could not see them. After watching my website drop from 900 visitors a day to 200 per day as of March 22, 2012, I have been concentrating on cleaning out my database, which was half full of spam I discovered (I did not partake in any backlink schemes either). Perhaps I should be concentrating my efforts elswhere, like Google Webmaster Guidelines? Or perhaps Google just chose to put other websites ahead of mine with their new algorythms and I’m wasting my time with organic search engine marketing? All I got from Google Webmaster Tools was notifications of a severe drop in traffic to my website insuranceclaimhelp.org, with no explanation as to WHY.

Thanks Michael, but aren’t wordpress pages stored in the database in the “Post” table? So you can’t edit WordPress pages, like ASP pages, with Dreamweaver, but have to use the WordPress Dashpanel Pages editor while online, to create and edit WordPress pages and content, which are called “Posts”?

Im using wordpress 3.2.1 wth Hello_D theme.

    Thanks Joseph,

I would like the separate plugin that automatically deletes the spam from the database as soon as akismet puts it there.

Since I edit my posts often, I don’t want to wait the one month that akismet seems to require.

    Can you recommend a plugin?

    Thanks so much.

    Thanks Joseph!

Is that because Googlebot sees the word “spam” in the “Comments_Approved” field or because it sees “rel+nofollow” after the url posted by the spammers in the “Comment_content” field?

I added a plugin called “Stop Spammer Registrations Plugin” that checks against spam databases to prevent spammers from registering or making comments. Although some are still getting through, akismet is catching them and marking as spam.

I still dont like the idea of any spam being stored in my database, even for 30 days, so I may try a different plugin called “Spam Free WordPress” that uses “anonymous password authentication”. Or maybe a “Captcha” plugin? Your thoughts?

If a post older than a month old is edited in any way, even a misspelled word corrected, does Aksimet have to wait a month before doing the auto spam delete?

If so, is there a way to override the one month wait, perhaps in the Akismet plugin code? I edit my posts quite often?

I’m concerned that I may be getting penalized by Google for spam comments in my Comments and Commentsmeta database tables. The spam is in the same table as non spam comments, even though it is marked as “spam” in the Comments_Approved field.

And I did send an email to the plugin author, Scott Cariss. No response yet.

Oh, and the ftp server showed no file overwrites or changes in the file Monitor Plus plugin folder since I originally installed in in October of 2011. So is the redirect coming from elsewhere on the server, a file or Godaddy or WordPress control panel setting?
