In reply to: Updating failed. The response is not a valid JSON response.Turning modsecurity in cpanel worked for me. See this thread where @aqit79 notes this fix.

I turned modsecurity back on because cpanel has a warning not to leave modsecurity off except for testing.

In reply to: Why does Classic Widget fix JSON-error?Thanks @aqit79 ! Turning off modsecurity stopped the problem for me too. This started yesterday for me. I turned modsecurity back on and the problem came back (cpanel warns me not to leave modsecurity off except for testing). I can use the classic editor for now.

In reply to: Updating failed. The response is not a valid JSON response.Same problem started for me last night. I get the “Updating failed. The response is not a valid JSON response.” error when updating any post in the block editor. I can update pages without problem interestingly, and can update posts using classic editor. Site was working fine earlier in the day yesterday.

In reply to: [Gutenberg] Spaces deleted when copying from Word into GutenbergI’m having this same issue but the space issue also seems to occur with some old posts originally created in the classic editor when the posts are converted to blocks. Anyone else seeing that? I like Gutenberg except for this. It is time consuming to have to read through posts to find the missing spaces.
Hi! We are running PHP 5.4.45.
Dear Tim,
I have downloaded RC 14….. and it works!!
Both file size autodetect and duration autodetect function correctly with the remotely hosted mp3 file.
Thank you very much!!!
JeremyHi Tim,
Thank you for the continued help here!
I downloaded 8.8.9.2 RC 12 and ran the 4 tests. Here is what happened:
Click on “With Filename Post”

I apologize for not communicating in the last week. I was in Dallas for a meeting and just plain didn’t have any extra time.Tim, I installed the new version and it still is not functioning as before. To make sure I have the correct version, it is reporting as 8.8.9.2 RC 9. Is that correct?
Also, I have the debug flag set to true and the error does not trigger a report to the log.
I’d be happy to ask hostgator, but I’d need help formulating the question to ask them. I’m not sure what I should ask
Thank you!!
JeremyHi Ray,
Thank you again!
PHP is 5.2.15 and it is running as CGI.
That and other PHP settings for the server are here:

JeremyDear Ray,
Thank you for the suggestion! When I include that line either before or after the wordpress section I get the following server error when trying to access the site (site works normally again when I remove the line):

Yes, this is happening on all WordPress installs that I have hosted at Host Gator shared hosting.WordPress installs I have hosted on Apollohosting and Lunarpages shared hosting are functioning ok in this regard. I’m trying to migrate all to HostGator and/or Lunarpages because they seem to run much faster that Apollohosting’s servers (for WordPress installs anyhow). Apollohosting doesn’t host the MySql databases on the “localhost”. They have external machines running their mysql databases and it seems to really slow down WordPress. Sorry for the off topic rant.
Thanks again!
JeremyThank you Tim.
To rule out plugins I created a completely fresh install of WordPress without any plugins.
I appreciate your help here.
JeremyHi Guys,
Thank you!
Here is the pastebin link to the two .htaccess files:
https://wordpress.pastebin.com/download.php?i=GsTkqPsw
It shows the file from the functioning site and the one from the site with the error.
They appear to be the sameHere is one of the URL’s I’m testing:
https://www.archive.org/download/StopTheU.s.KoreaTradeAgreement/lori-wallach.mp3So to review the functioning of the Auto Detect buttons:
1) entering just file name (if file is in uploads dir) e.g. “lori-wallach.mp3” – BOTH AUTO DETECT BUTTONS WORK
2) entering full URL to file in local UPLOAD dir e.g. “https://www.transpartisaninnovations.com/wp-content/uploads/lori-wallach.mp3” – ALSO BOTH AUTO DETECT BUTTONS WORK
3) entering full URL to remotely hosted mp3 e.g. “https://www.archive.org/download/StopTheU.s.KoreaTradeAgreement/lori-wallach.mp3” – AUTO DETECT BUTTONS DO NOT WORK
4) entering partial remote URL leaving off MP3 file name in general setting “URL of the media files directory” e.g. “https://www.archive.org/download/StopTheU.s.KoreaTradeAgreement/”
and then entering just the file name in the media location field in the post e.g. “lori-wallach.mp3” – ALSO BOTH AUTO DETECT BUTTONS WORKThank you!! Jeremy
Dear Tim,
Thank you again for all your help!
I installed the new Development Version.
However, no entries are made in the log file when I attempt to use either autodetect button when a full URL is entered into the media file location field.
An entry is made when I enter a file name of a file in the upload directory. You can see that at https://wordpress.pastebin.com/download.php?i=G0cBPpuY
Thank you again!
