In my right hand column there are Publish, Format, Categories, Tag, Featured image, Comments & Editor. I am using classic editor. Under “format”, I have switched from Gallery to Standard. There is no “Status and visibility” tab. Nothing changes. I thought maybe I needed to give my host time to update the cache, but still no change after several minutes.
All my other posts are in the Gallery format and there is no slideshow. I am using wordpress 5.2.2 My solution was to re-create the post, exactly the same as before with format “Gallery” selected. This time it is created without a slideshow. Not sure why this happens. I think perhaps the key is to insert a gallery and not individual images to a post. As I recall initially I inserted images to the post and then deleted them, inserting a Gallery later instead. Could this been the reason a slideshow was created? Thanks for responding Anders.

Thank you Anders. I just disabled that in Jetpack. Hope that works.

And like Patee333 says, each post has to have a featured image which you set when you create or edit a post.

Go to settings/reading in your dashboard. Change the number to 6 where it says: “Blog pages show at most _____ posts.”

I think I solved it by adjusting a few Jetpak settings. Has been running well for a few days now.

Finally got it to deactivate. Watching the site now. One of the things that seems to have an impact: I turned off the jetpack mobile theme and then turned it back on. That seemed to stabilize things and make them consistent. Mobile site now seems to load OK. Still watching.

I tried to deactivate that module and got this message:
“Error updating settings. lazy-images: The requested Jetpack module could not be deactivated. (Status 400)”
