In reply to: Please help… I’m getting desparate! This might be related: The reason I am trying to get wordpress to work is because my greymatter was acting up.
I have had my greymatter up and working on my site since November. In that timespan I have posted about 15 entries. Everything has always worked fine. But the other day I was writing an entry, and when I clicked to add the entry, I was brought to the 403 Forbidden page. (I hadn’t added anything to my site since the last time I had successfully posted an entry)
The same thing would happen when I would try to edit a post. BUT sometimes the editing would work, and if I only copied a few paragraphs of my latest entry and pressed submit it would work.
So I decided to find out where in the latest entry was the problem. I went through each paragraph until I narrowed down the problem in this paragraph.
“So we must base things on evidence, because you can have blind faith in just about anything. And frankly, the “blind faith” of Christianity…doesn’t that sound an awful lot like some kind of crowd control? It could be the greatest marketing tool ever invented. Once you buy Christianity you’re set for life. No down-time, no upgrading the software, no changes…after all, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” You don’t have to worry about a thing…incontrovertible proof that the Bible was written in the 7th century as a hoax, scientists proving that the earth is 4 billion years old (which they have done, and the millions of Christians who still believe in a young earth make my case), even God coming down amidst thunder cracks and firebolts proclaiming that Jesus Christ is NOT LORD…its okay, even if all these things happen the Christianity you bought still applies. There’s no expiration date, no need for
- updates
. Blind faith lets you accept with a sanctimonious, smug smile the most glaring of contradictions.”
The word “updates” is the problem. But its only the entire word. If I left the word “updat” in, the post would publish. And even more crazy is that when I write the word “update” or “updates” later in the entry it still publishes! It just won’t accept the word in that particular spot.
So I was reallly proud of myself for finding out the problem and even more satisfied that my entry was now up (minus that one word). I thought all the problems were over.
But I was wrong. I realized I didn’t put a title for that last entry, so I go to try to put a title and editing the title in brings me to a 403 error again!!!
In fact, any editing of this entry I cannot do without getting the error.
And some other entries I tried to edit wouldn’t work either. But I tried to create a new entry, a very short entry that says “does this work” in the title area and in the content area. This DOES work.
So I don’t know if this is at all related to the wordpress issue. All I know is that there are 3 things in common, they are both really RANDOM, they both involve 403 errors, and they are both driving me crazy to no end!

In reply to: Please help… I’m getting desparate!I contacted Netrillium too. The lady said she would see if she could find a workaround. I also asked her if the mod_security could be temporarily shut off and she didn’t respond yet.
If what you mean by apache error log is this, this is what mine says:

In reply to: Please help… I’m getting desparate! But Key, why the heck would them turn security on too high ONLY affect the options-reading page? That’s so random!

In reply to: Please help… I’m getting desparate!Yosemite, I did the tuneup, activated the plugin, and it didn’t work. ??

In reply to: Please help… I’m getting desparate!I actually already have the latest version. Key doesn’t, but I do. I’ll try the tuneup though. Thanks again Yosemite, I’ll let you know if the tuneup works.
HandySolo, I guess I can try that as a last result. My host is netrillium, should I just ask them about it?

In reply to: Please help… I’m getting desparate! And Yosemite, yes, what you said is exactly what mine and Key’s problem is!!!
All the other admin functions work perfectly fine! Just options-reading doesn’t work.

In reply to: Please help… I’m getting desparate!Yosemite, I did what you said. I temporarily got rid of my index.html so that index.php is the default. Then I changed the blog address to https://little-hypotenuse.com. I saved it, logged out, logged back in, and tried options-reading. It gave me the same 403 error.
Me and Key seem to have the same exact problem. Its very strange. Thanks for helping Yosemite, but please share some more ideas! We’re so frustrated!

In reply to: Please help… I’m getting desparate! Thanks for responding Yosemite!
Actually I have 2 wordpresses installed. The first one I installed in the main directory in public_html. I tried to install another one to see if it worked, and I installed it under the directory wordpress (the options-reading didn’t work for this one too). So you just told me to login to the one in the wordpress directory, the second one I installed, one I don’t care about and am going to delete. This one is not connected to the index.php that you just saw.
So for my main blog under the admin url of https://little-hypotenuse.com/wp-admin, my general options are this:
wordpress address: https://little-hypotenuse.com
blog address: https://little-hypotenuse.com/index.php.The index.php is specified because little-hypotenuse.com right now leads directly to index.html, where my site has greymatter installed and not wordpress. I am making a transition.
So all of that seems correct right?
And by the way, I do have a .htaccess, but my FTP won’t show it. I see it in my cpanel file directory, but I don’t know how to actually open it to view it. And I don’t even know if this has anything to do with .htaccess because I don’t even get what that is.Sorry for writing so much, thank you!

In reply to: Please help… I’m getting desparate!I am having the same exact problem as Key. Only my options-reading page is giving me the 403/404 errors. And I can’t have 20 entries on a page, I need to be able to customize these options! Please help us someone! I do not have a .htaccess file anywhere (what is it anyway?). my site is at:
https://little-hypotenuse.com/index.phpThanks
