I would rather download a new version, delete the old files and upload the new version as soon as a security issue is found than wait the length of time Microsoft wait before releasing “patches”.

I don’t hate them, no, lol.. the reason behind it was more because I’m a perfectionist, and trimming down the sidebar makes the site appear tidier.
