Just after my previous response I took another look and noticed something…

– Caching is set to be disabled for logged-in users.
– I am currently logged in as Admin to the site both on mobile (iPhone 11 Pro Max) and desktop (mac).

– In Chrome on Mac, the Google Pay button DOES appear.
– In Chrome on iPhone, the Google Pay button DOESN’T currently appear.
(It did last night, and no changes have been made to the site since).

– Have just tried Clearing the Cache and then disabling it completely – also cleared browser cache – same issue on Chrome (iPhone) – no Google Pay button appearing.

– In Safari (Mac and iPhone), the Apple Pay button DOES appear.

This issue seems very intermittent.

And I should add that, even on occasion when the Apple Pay/Google Pay buttons DO appear, they seem to load after a 1-3 second delay from full page load (this delay has always occurred for these buttons ever since I began using this plugin).

Thanks for your input.

The Cache has been active since day 1 and it automatically clears itself daily (every set period). I also clear it manually after any update is applied to the site.

I have manually cleared the Cache several times when trying to get to the bottom of this payment button issue (but to no avail).

As I mentioned above – the buttons both now appear for me when viewing in Chrome/Safari, so by disabling Caching completely at this point I’m not going to achieve anything, because I’m already seeing the buttons?

What I’m now hoping to understand is why those buttons went away for a few days but have now returned, despite no updates being applied to the website (on my side) during that time.

But I guess the problem now is – since the issue is no longer occurring (for me, anyway) – it’s going to be near impossible to debug?

Ps. I have a Payment card on my Google account. I haven’t updated it nor changed it at any point.

In WP Supercache I have the following excluded from being cached:

This has been the same since day 1, it’s never been changed.

I also haven’t made any changes to the website since this post was created, yet now when I load product pages/the basket page in Google Chrome, the Google Pay button now seems to be appearing (albeit, after a 2-3 second delay).
Same with the Apple Pay button in Safari.

Since no changed have been made on my end, surely this would point towards an external issue?

Yes very strange. I’m assuming you’re not seeing the GPay button either?

…and now, as if by magic, I can see the GPay button on that very product page (also checked others, the basket and checkout).

I currently have the same product page open in two tabs in the same browser (Chrome). One tab was opened when I posted my previous message. The other was opened just after posting my previous message. The GPay button appears on one tab but not the other.

(note: When I view the page source code I cannot see the Google Pay button on the page which is not displaying it).
I would add screenshots here but I’m unsure how.

I probably should have done more digging before posting but thanks for your reply as it gave me the nudge I needed…
Unsure, but it’s possible I had only previously checked on Chrome and that’s where I became aware of the issue.

I can’t for the life of me remember if I also checked on Safari when I first became aware of the issue. Anyway I’ve now checked on Safari (Mac) and the Apple Pay button DOES appear. Same on Safari (mobile).

Where or not that’s never stopped showing – or whether it’s just came back – I do not know for certain.

HOWEVER in Chrome, the Google Pay button doesn’t show.
I’ve tried in Incognito mode as well as in normal mode (both logged in and out of my Google account), but the button doesn’t appear.

I’ve also just checked through this weekends orders and there’s not a single Apple Pay/Google Pay order been placed (quite unusual as customers normally tend to use those options quite often).

The Google Pay button used to show on ALL product pages, in the basket, and also at checkout. Now it doesn’t seem to appear anywhere, and no config changes have been made.

I’m using the same device/ browser/ etc (Chrome on Mac) that I always have. Tried on my Ipad and iPhone 11 Pro Max also – with the same results (no Google Pay button).

I seem to be having this exact same issue and after days of searching I cannot seem to find a fix for it. All I’ve found is old posts regarding the issue but yet it still doesn’t seem to have been addressed and I’m struggling to understand why. Is this not classed as a bug?

I’ve read through this thread but not sure I’ve got my head around how I need to go about fixing it… is it a case of me finding all icons that seem to be affected by this and then manually target those CSS elements in my child themes stylesheet, set the CONTENT for each instance?

The icons that I seem to be having trouble with are the down chevrons (as above) in my main menu, the basket icon for the mini cart, and the search products field icon.

Much like the OP I’ve been struggling to debug the issue because 19 times from 20 they will load fine, but on the odd occasion they will load as random characters instead of an icon.

This display issue obviously doesn’t give much confidence in the brand to potential customers, and so I’m eager to find a fix.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

The order ON HOLD emails still need to be sent out, in the event an order is manually placed on hold. So to deactivate those emails via hooks does not really solve the problem.

I have also now added Stripe for card payments and using Stripe does not send the customers two emails…
Eg.
1) order on hold, and
2) order processing

It only sends the:
2) order processing
…email.

This is exactly how it should work. Surely?
Or at least this is how every other payment processor that I’ve used in WooCommerce has worked.

Conversions also increased overnight since swapping out this plugin for the Stripe plugin/ payment processing. And in the last week, conversions are up by 23%, so I hope you can pass on these comments to the development team because this plugin clearly needs serious work before anyone in their right mind would use it in a production environment. The lost revenue for the short time of which I used this plugin backs this up.

Not sure if it matters but it may help:
– I am in the UK
– ‘PayPal Payments Pro’ was not available to me as I am using a new PayPal business account and so PayPal insisted that I use their new PPCP for Card Processing. Unless I went for Braintree, PPCP is apparently now the only option. Or at least, in the UK.

I will keep an eye on this plugin and may resort back to it in future but I cannot experiment with this plugin in a live production environment for the simple fact it’s lost me a ton of money.

I acknowledge that the plugin doesn’t send emails, but are you absolutely certain that this plugin is not triggering emails?

I ask because…
Prior to switching to this plugin for Payment processing a customer would only receive the ORDER PROCESSING email immediately after payment.

Since adding this plugin the customer now receives both an ON HOLD email and also the ORDER PROCESSING email. Both emails are sent immediately after paying by Credit/ Debit Card (but not when paying through PayPal). The emails are send seconds apart – ON HOLD email first and then ORDER PROCESSING email.

The on hold email says:
Thanks for your order. It’s on-hold until we confirm that payment has been received. In the meantime, here’s a reminder of what you ordered

Then the order processing email says:
Just to let you know — we’ve received your order #BSOC-5426, and it is now being processed:

So it seems there is a very short delay in the card payment being confirmed, and so it is causing WC to send out that first email.

I have tried disabling this plugin and running through an order myself. With the plugin disabled, only an ORDER PROCESSING email is being sent. So to me, this says that your plugin is either triggering the ON HOLD email for some reason, or there is a conflict somewhere?

WooCommerce itself, in settings -> emails allows you to choose who receives each email. The NEW ORDER email for example, has a RECIPIENT field, but on the ON-HOLD email there is no recipient field and so it cannot be changed or disabled. It automatically sends such emails to the customer as default.
I believe this can be overridden by unhooking via the themes functions.php file:

But if I unhook the ON HOLD emails – it will also stop them being sent in the event we need to manually mark an order as ON HOLD.

Sorry I’ll need to disable this plugin because checkout abandonment has increased by 52% since it was installed. This equates to a substantial amount of lost revenue.

By the way – this plugin also seems to trigger two emails to the customer when they pay by Credit/ Debit card (directly on the WC site)…
The customer receives both an *order on hold* email and also an *order processing* email. Both are sent immediately after payment is made by card.
This has also confused customers.

This plugin really isn’t fit to be used in a live environment in my opinion.
There is no way that I can leave this on a live site with such a severe impact on conversions.

I suggest that anyone using this plugin monitors their conversion rates very closely.

Very surprised nobody’s came across this before. Surely anyone selling software as a digital/ downloadable product will be adding updates?
I’m still unsure if this is a WC bug or if it’s a feature lacking in WC.
I’ve done some Googling but unable to come up with anything.
