In reply to: Log inBuddyPress may have what you’re looking for, or try a membership/privacy plugin such as WP-Members.
Offhand, most of the membership-style plugins I’ve seen just give you the blank wp-login screen without showing your site’s header, but there may be exceptions.

In reply to: Admin slow / hosting issuesYou’re using the Espresso theme, which is a commercial theme. Plugins and/or hosting may be contributing to the problem, but I would go to theme support first.
Try going here: Espresso Support.

In reply to: URL changedDid you try Tara’s tip to deactivate all plugins before you went through the Permalinks examples above? Sometimes SEO plugins can misbehave or be set by user incorrectly.
What theme are you using? Does the problem persist when you switch themes to the default Twenty-Fourteen theme (with all plugins deactivated and Permalinks set to /Post name)?

In reply to: Comments are submit and then disappearStrange that the admin can’t post a comment. And you said that your admin comment doesn’t even show up in the dashboard Comments section like it’s awaiting moderation?
How about in Settings -> General, is the “anyone can register” box clicked? Individual post preferences can overrule some general settings; so go to your Posts page and click on “Quick Edit” under a post title. Is the “Allow comments” box checked?
You’re using TwentyTen and Jetpack; those are pretty well supported. In case it is a plug-in issue, try disabling them one by one and trying to submit a comment after each one.

In reply to: Local Network/WordPress ConflictCheck your email; I sent you some screenshots from Chrome Dev tools Audits. Let us know if you make any headway; I’m not familiar with local host troubleshooting.

In reply to: Changing text backgroundYou have your background in your content set to transparent, except for the span that has the opening paragraph (class of .grey). The light/dark contrast of your patterned background will make it difficult for any color text to be visible.
Depending on what look you want, you might just want to give all of your text area a background color, not just the spans of text. Then you can give it some opacity if you want some of the doggie paw-prints to show through a little.

In reply to: Comments are submit and then disappearWhat happens when you yourself (admin) log in and try to post a comment?
Go to Settings -> Discussion and see if you have checked/unchecked:
“Users must be registered and logged in to comment”
“Allow people to post comments on new articles”Is the default setting for new users ‘subscriber’, and do you let subscribers post comments?
Did you add/activate any comment-related plug-ins over the summer?

In reply to: Deleted wp-config/ Reset it but now wants new installIf you have a copy/backup of your old wp-config.php file, you can find it around line #27:
/** MySQL database username */
define(‘DB_USER’, ‘your_user_name_wrdp1’);/** MySQL database password */
define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘xxxxxxxxxxxx’);It’s not something that most people use or have written down somewhere. Then again, if you do have a backup copy of your wp-config, you can just ask your hosting Co. to help you upload it to your db again (to document-root level, where your index.php resides).

In reply to: Anchor points from page titles to post content in pageMy comment condensed the blank space in my example. There are 2-3 blank spaces between the last letter ‘s’ and the closing quotation mark in all your hrefs except the one that works.

In reply to: Anchor points from page titles to post content in page“Leadership Development” is the only one working. It’s also the only one that doesn’t have blank space between the last letter of the href and the closing quotation mark.
Example:
a href=”#Executive Teams “
The one that’s working, Leadership Development, takes you to the right spot of the page but doesn’t take into consideration that there’s a sticky nav, so it’s covering the top of that section.

In reply to: Getting rid of "blog"I’m not too familiar with multisite, but is “blog” showing up in all of your URL choices because that’s the subdomain address where these are posted? If so, “blog” will be a part of your permalink structure, unless you choose the default or wrangle with the custom setting.
@mor10 Thanks much for that explanation. I think I’ll let the community ‘kick the tires’ of Twenty Twelve for a month or two and then start using it with child themes when WP3.5 comes out. Sounds like a good one for newbs or those needing a simpler cleaner starting point.
mor10, when you say Twenty Twelve “is ideal for building advanced child themes… but Twenty Eleven was far too complex and convoluted” to make advanced child themes, do you mean it just offers a better basic set of building blocks to customize? As a newb, the only child themes I’ve experimented with so far have been Twenty Eleven. Wouldn’t it still be easier to just override some of that Twenty Eleven complexity where necessary (as opposed to coding from scratch all the stuff a simpler theme is missing); or by “convoluted” do you mean that it’s more time and code-intensive to customize precisely because of that?
What kinds of templates, features, options, etc have you found so far in Twenty Twelve that make it more appealing to you for child themes than Twenty Ten or Twenty Eleven?

In reply to: Tutor?Hi John, There’s a few options out there:
1. youtube has at least a dozen competent video tutors; you can even search on YT specifically for twentyeleven theme tutorials
2. There’s the forums here if you have specific questions and find them in the appropriate forum, and don’t forget the codex
3. there are offsite training courses at places like Lynda.com
4. if you need someone in person, you could also check out craigslist toronto to make a post looking for a tutor in your area.I’ve found all 4 to be very helpful (newbie myself). Hope that helps!
