In reply to: [Ultimate Blocks - WordPress Blocks Plugin] Star Ratings show, but do no workYeah, I know “I” can change the value in the settings, but Star Ratings are for users/readers to rate the material. The point is — how do I get Star Ratings to work as they should? Why have these blocks, if they don’t work? In fact, why use WordPress at all, if I can’t set up sites and have them work the way they should?
I appreciate your efforts, but having the author set the star rating isn’t a solution. It is like a researcher submitting an article to a “refereed journal,” where the author is the referee. If we have a rating system, the authors or webmaster cannot be the ones rating the work; it must be the readers/users. Otherwise it is just BS.

In reply to: [Ultimate Blocks - WordPress Blocks Plugin] Star Ratings show, but do no workIstiak,
Wow! Why have star rating if users can’t use them?! But, none of the other star rating blocks work, either. And, they won’t work for me (the author) either. This just doesn’t make any sense to me.
Thanks.

Bas — Thanks for your note.
I tried copying and pasting from the Button settings short code, as well as from other buttons that work.
However, I tried again today, and it worked, which is great, but frustrating in that I have no idea what was wrong in the first place.
If this sort of thing happens again, I’ll probably go to a different set of plugins for a button. I wasted far too much time on this issue. So, I’ll just have to wait and see.
Thanks.
Jeff
I’ve tried using the variations listed for the short code. A button, but the wrong appearance (button title) shows up with the correct URL. Example: The button title should be “Download PDF,” but the button appears as “Join” (maxbutton id=”1″), but with the correct URL, when I put in the shortcode = [maxbutton id=”4″ url=”the-pdf-url”]. I’m assuming that you can only have one button titled “Download PDF.” For multiple uses with different URL’s, you have to use the expanded shortcode: [maxbutton id=”4″ url=”pdf-url’]. But why does the wrong button image appear?
I think I’ve found the issue. The site I’m working on is partly an online store based on an affiliate program. The only browser that supports the affiliate program button is Chrome. In the midst of the slow response times, I’ve noticed (on a Mac) that Google Chrome Helper ends up spiking to almost 100% CPU usage. The only workaround I can think of is to use Firefox or whatever other browser for entering data. And, use Chrome to get the purchasing links through the affiliate button. So far, it seems to be working.
Darnell,
The site that crashed due to a faulty Jetpack plugin is: https://batesoninstitute.org.
The site that gets bogged down when typing in new content is: https://store.jeffbloom.net
This issue of slowing down occurs over a relatively short period of time (i.e., after a two or three lines of text). The issue slowly gets worse to the point of having to wait 45 seconds or so for the newly entered text to appear. If I update and refresh the page, text entry is normal for the first couple of lines of text then begins to slow down. I’ve deactivated all of the plugins. The only one that had a longer lasting effect was the Jetpack deactivation, but it, too, resumed the same pattern.I’ve just trashed the subdomain and restarted. Fortunately, this problem started fairly early on, so I didn’t really lose much (I had copies of content) other than time. I am now using a different theme. So far, everything is working as it should. I have a feeling something may have gotten compromised early on and just cascaded into complete dysfunction.
I wasn’t using Gutenberg and kept pretty much to my standard security and well-established plugins… however, the problem was still occurring when I deactivated the plugins.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Now, I am getting the same error on every page I try to update or publish on this site. But, on another one of my sites, I’m having no issues at all.
Is there some global setting on this site that is problematic?
If I change all of the headings to #2, I still get the “publishing failed” error, but the information icon shows no errors.
In general, I don’t like the larger headings from my own design perspective. So far, in my 4 other WP sites, I have never run into a problems like this. And, it hasn’t occurred on the other pages on this new site. I just don’t understand why this is an issue. It’s making me want to go back to straight up html/css/java script. This is by far more time-consuming and aggravating than it should be.
I’ve tried several variations of eliminating the header, changing the header. When I removed that first header, it just changes the error to the next header.
